Newbie here, Help needed! - Z scale - power brick

Joined: 23/10/2015(UTC) Posts: 4 Location: Stockholms Lan, Skytteholm		Hi everyone! I am totally new to this hobby. I have always wanted to start and now the time has come. I have been looking for a starter set from Märklin but none was something I liked. So I opted and bought the new Lufthansa Express train(81551) that will be out sometime next month. This is not a kit and it comes only with a loco and 3 cars. There is no power brick and no rails. So I need help to buy the right power brick for my train plus some rails for a first basic layout. Could you please help me out on my start in this new and fascinating miniature world? All help, comments, thoughts are welcome. Cheers Giannis

Cheers Giannis Hi Giannis: Rokuhan offers a complete package and is presently the most economical, offers exceptional performance, many power options and wide variety of track curves. An R028 oval of track gets you started. Their RC-02 controller is either battery powered or optional AC adapter. If you prefer to stick to Marklin, you need a Marklin 67013 controller set that includes the 67020 (controller) and 66111 (Euro 230V) adapter. You are in Europe right? A simple oval of track will consist of 1 x 8590 (feeder), 1 x 8500 (110mm straight) and then a circle of track at any radius R145's are Marklin #8510 , R195's are Marklin #8520, and R220's are Marklin #8530. These are all 45 degree, so you'd need 8 of each to complete the loop. Marklin do not offer a basic oval "pack" so that is why I am "piecing" it out for you. Any more questions, let me know! I will start with a simple oval as you suggested, just so I get used to assembling and steering the train. Could you suggest a little more "interesting" (complex) layout? Thank you very much!

They are controlled by the C002 control box or on the RC-03 higher level controller. Higher level, meaning it has more included and costs more. :) Rokuhan turnouts: R022 R023 are short remote/manual turnouts (for short locos and rolling stock as they are an L55mm turnout) R039 and R040 are the remote/manual turnouts (R195 and L110mm). R026 and R027 are the remote/manual curved turnouts with R220 and R195 turns. C002 separate switch for turnouts (can be powered alone or with RC-02/RC-03) The Marklin turnouts are either sourced manual or remote - curved turnouts are all remote. 8565 and 8566 are the left and right manual STRAIGHT turnouts 8562 and 8562 are the remote left and right STRAIGHT turnouts. 8568 and 8569 are the remote left and right CURVED turnouts Marklin turnouts are run with a 72720 control box that is powered by any z scale rated power pack. About layouts, well, it depends if you go with Marklin or Rokuhan. Marklin has their starter oval with the starter sets. From that you can add the T1, T2, T3 extensions. Rokuhan has a similar idea, but they have dozens of layout options. R062? That is a double oval, ready to run once you add a power pack.
