Hi All,

I am relatively new to Marklin and I have a quick question. I have several freight cars and a small baggage car from the 1980s which have their original wheel sets. The wheels on these cars have very large flanges (pizza cutters). Is it safe to run these cars on C track? It looks like the flanges are almost touching the ties on the C track.

Thanks

It is perfectly safe to run pizza cutter wheels on C track!
In fact, nothing has changed about the wheel flanges, the latest models also have them.
C track is the thing to go for,Marklin seem to have put all their money on it.

Cheers,
Paul.

Hi Paul,

Thanks! I normally model DC trains. Earlier the year, I purchased a small Marklin Startup set to set on a table when my granddaughter comes over. The 1980s rolling stock was a gift I got back then by my brother who did not know that I could not run them with my DC trains (at the time I had not dealer near me to exchange the wheels) so they have been patiently waiting to be used. At least now I have an excuse to purchase more of the beer cars and sweet cars that I always wanted to buy!

The beer cars and sweet cars are all based on the Marklin 4415,the original white version representing the prototype of the DB.
You must know that about all these cars are fantasy cars, used for advertising purposes, the manufacturers pay Marklin and Marklin produce the cars with their name on.
It does not matter, they are nice to collect and their pricing is acceptable,i have a couple too!

Now that you got a taste of Marklin you must know it is a desease which does not cure!
There comes a time that you cannot recall having run a DC train......
And if you insist running DC,there is Trix, fully owned by Marklin, offering the same productrange suitable for 2 rail DC.

Seen this one,the 4415.138 Dutch Marklin Club car 1998:

I recently purchased car 44212 for myself and the Start Up 44210 (Prinzen cookies) for my granddaughter. Even though they are fantasy cars, they are great to look at and run. Outside of Piko, few DC cars like these are produced. So I do have the feeling I will be expanding my Marklin collection! By the way, I really like the C track, very realistic. I especially like the switches. I may try to use the TRIX version the next time I redo my DC layout.

Eat your heart out on these great cars!

Here a sort of overview of earlier releases, this in no way pretents to be complete!

http://www.meine-bierwag...atalog_start.html?name=C

Opt for Kuhlwagen (reefers) in the list on the left.

For non beer cars, opt for Kuhlwagen under the header Werbewagen (promotional cars).

Cheers,
Paul.

Philip,

The number of versions is almost countless,it seems.
Every year,new versions are added.
The number of German breweries is truly amazing!
Apart from beer, various other products have been promoted on these cars, such as Bison (Dutch tabacco) and Douwe Egberts (Dutch coffee).

With the price being around Euro 10.- each, they make an affordable hobby.

Still,i think you should have the original 4415 in white also.....

And this one,of course:

And/or this one:

Cheers,
Paul.
