Hi all,

I have a lot of passenger rolling stock, but what I realized is that I don't have any longer era IIIa passenger cars. So they must be without DB emblem and just "Deutsche Bundesbahn" text. I prefer green ones with weathered or darkened roofs and the maximum lenght of 27 cm. I have two three axle shorter passenger car pairs from the starter set 29500 and these goes well with many of my era IIIa locos. But I "need" also some four axle ones 22-27 cm long for express trains. All information and recommendations are welcome.

Maybe some era IIIa passenger car set Märklin product numbers would help to decide? I want to have plastic cars with close couplers and these will be used mainly with steam locomotives.

Many thanks in advance! ThumpUp

Regards,
Janne

Märklin H0 digital layout. I have analog and digital H0 Collection. Rolling stock mostly from era I, II, III and IV. Märklin 1 gauge beginner.

Hi Anders, all,

I have been reading some of my Märklin catalogs from the years 2003-2004 and my favorite there are the Märklin DB cars 43100, 43110 and 43119. They are perfect for me for era IIIa, but the roofs seems to be silver color without any weathering. I like that these are green, with many doors and look old. Not too new looking as I have then newer passenger cars with DB emblem. From 29855 starter set and the extension set 42758.

Regards,
Janne

Moi Janne,

are you going to build F-, Eil- or local trains?
Railways of Germany-forum has tons of valuable information.
This is thread is just an example: Modelling Reisezüge: DB Epoche IIIa F-Züge in 1/87 HO

Helmut Kern has a good listing of reference information: Eisenbahn: Vorbild und HO

Hope this helps,
Juha

I saw a set of coaches announced at Schweickhardt with the number 43969. I think that the coaches already had the DB crest, but the train would be right for the 1950s.
There is the Miba Zugbildung book for Era III which is still available.

This site also has some interesting information about consists:

Hi Janne,

Juha has given you some good links with useful information, above.
As he says, it depends which type of train you wish to represent.
For example, for the inter-city or long distance trains, cars were painted blue.
And the "Deutsche Bundesbahn" text was used only on international trains.

"The coaches which the DB used for the F-trains were pre war express train coaches, mainly Bauart 35 and skirted coaches were used. But also pre war Rheingold coaches and coaches of the Henschel Wegmann Zug were used. The coaches were painted in a blue color (RAL 5011) and were provided with the inscription "DB" on both sides of the coaches. Coaches for international F-train services were provided with the inscription "Deutsche Bundesbahn" on both sides."

Green cars were used on D-trains, for local or slower inter-city traffic. These cars were not branded DB in any way prior to 1956.
The only IIIa cars in green produced by Marklin of which I know, are the Hecht coaches in the Trix brand, their numbers are:
23383
23384
23385
23387

regards
Kimball

Thank you to all for the information. I don't know much of real railroad prototypes and about the right consists and so on. It seems to me a bit complicated to find the "correct" ones. It is more important for me that they are green, without DB-text and they will be pulled with S 3/6 BR 18.4 and BR 03 steam locomotives or sometimes E 40 electric locomotive all having the Deutsche Bundesbahn text on them. It is not needed to be 100% correct. The looks is the first thing and about the same era IIIa. Maybe DB used these locomotives to faster passenger trafic, but I can always have my imagination used why they took these engines to pull other type passenger cars for reason or another. So I'm not modeling a fast passenger train then, if these have to be green and not blue color.

Janne

My proposals are 43290,43939 and the best of all 42281 with metal wagons.

Green, no DB cookie, not too long?

You can try to get 43172, 43182, 43192.
Or 43100, 43110, 43119.

The coaches from 00792 are era IIIb. Even a proud BR 03 sometimes had to haul such a train ...

43290 is also an excellent choice (but not really green).
Regards
Tom

I think my choice is then 43100, 43110 and 43119. I have already two green double 3-axle passenger cars (4 in total) without DB logo from 29500 starter set. I don't want blue or red passenger cars, so other ones like 43290 are not for me then. There is a lot of choices for passenger cars with DB logo. If I will buy later more passenger cars with DB logo on them my choice is then the set 42750.

Hi Pål,

In my opinion these 43100, 43110 and 43119 are great looking as they look old enough and can be used well with older trains at the same time on the layout without looking too new. I think they go well with era II trains at the same time. It must be looking really nice when you have led lights in them Cool .

All the best,
Janne
