In the Swedish Railway forum "Postvagnen" the following was posted (see also link):

Foton

För kännedom. Sådana här pjäser kan hamna långt bort.

DELEN ALSJEBLIEFT!!!

Afz Janny & Johan Nieuwenhuis
Hilversum

Below follows a slightly improved Google-translation from Dutch (and Swedish - the first line):

FYI. These kinds of models can end up far away.

PLEASE SHARE!!

During the night of 6 January 7, 2014 was burgled at my parents home!
All self-built model steam engines have been stolen!
3 1/2 "Janny (60cm long, 25kg)
3 1/2 "NCS 78 (1.60m long, 45kg)
5 "S160-2438 (2m long, 130kg)
2x accompaniment car.

It is therefore three coal-fired models, 35 years of work and replacements cannot be bought because they are each unique and no other model exists!

Should anyone learn anything, let me know or call the Police Hilversum.

Sender Janny & Johan Nieuwenhuis

The engines have been found and returned to the owners. See post #10 below!

Hi,

I feel very sorry for them. What an empty feeling it must be when 35 years hand made work is lost for thiefs... Crying Sad OhMyGod

I really hope they will catch the thief(s) and get all these nice locomotives back! The thiefs must have known what they are searching for and where...

Best regards,
Janne

This is very sad.

If this were to happen in the USA, I would suspect that the thieves were just interested in selling the locos for scrap metal and using the money to buy drugs. They would have no appreciation for the art and engineering that went into the craftsmanship of the locomotives. In our area, thieves cut down some street light poles just for the metal.

absolutely shocking and disgusting, what you do in your prime years cannot so easily be duplicated.
I really hope they'll find the locos in tact and catch the thieves.

Unfortunately this is also the case here in Holland.
Copper, bronze, iron, steel .. all metal nowadays get stolen and sold for a few bucks.
These sick thefts are a huge problem in Holland, especially now with the economic crisis.

I am trying to find an animal to compare to the ones who did it, but don't find.

I think the robbery of locomotives is not for sell the metal.

Stealing 200kg of "metal"?

They need a truck to transport those machines...

Unique pieces aren't sellable.

I wish that they recover all loks.

Very sad indeed. Irreplaceable. As Gary stated they probably will scrap it for the semi-rare metals. Selling something custom made like this would be very difficult.

Stupid bastards will even kill themselves to steal copper. This happened a few years ago on the other side of the county.

All 3 loco´s have been found in healthy condition in a field just 15km away and reunited with a delighted owner.

That is great news. It is unfortunate that the builder-owner had to go through the stress of the temporary loss.

I am glad that the Locos have been returned. Smile

I'd wager that the next project the owner will tackle will be building a moat filled with man eating crocodiles around his property.........

Sorry to be a sceptic but is there any proof of this, ie news article link or otherwise?

Yes, it was all over the news here in Holland, the trains have been found in a pasture with a letter that said 'Call the police'.
The stolen tracks and special tools are still missing.

Marco,

...it's the same in France , and it became a serious problem !
There are also major robberies of agricultural machinery, tractors, boat engines, and all kinds of heavy machinery ...
We have never seen it before...
They are organized gangs from the Eastern areas (far east sometimes)
One more negative consequence of the " open world of merchants " with no frontiers ...
