I was wondering if anybody has any idea which coach is the third one behind the lok in this photo

http://www.railcolor.net...5478_57&action=image

The Lok is the famous Maerklin Alpaufzug Re 460 and the photo is described as having been taken near Goeppingen in 1995.
I am guessing it is some kind of German charter coach but I don't recognize it.

Hi Mike, can't make it out for sure.
Even blowing up the scale of the pic doesn't help much
It looks a bit like the coach bears the letters "SWISSCOM" (the leading Swiss telecom company) but I would not cut my hand on this.
Just a hunch..

There is a slightly larger version of the picture here - perhaps this helps identification:

http://www.bahnbilder.de/name/einzelbild/number/491897/kategorie/schweiz~e-loks~re-460-werbeloks.html

I also think it is some kind of German charter coach - definitely not a Swiss one.

PS. Sorry, I have no idea why the link apparently doesn't work, something seems to be distorted or blocked, but why? Confused Blink

Hi Mike,

From a larger picture in Märklin Magazin 6/1995 p. 12:

I'm sorry, I don't have any additional informations about that car.

Thanks Markus for the photo. I now know that it is a DB or former DB coach painted in a special livery for "Swatch".
Any more information or photos of this coach would be greatly appreciated.
This might make for a cool Maerklin coach.

Hi Mike,

In the meantime I got the information that the car was named "Bauernstube" (engl: farmhouse parlour) and was a dining car in a rustic country-stile (WRm 51 85 08-80 111-6). The car was owned by "Rail-In-Club", a travel agency which organised many of the excursions which were offered by Märklin-Switzerland. The car was also used in regular night-trains from Zurich to Italy in the mid 1990s.

Markus,

Thanks for the information. I take it that this was one of the ex-DB coaches that were acquired by the SBB in the late 1980s. I'm not sure if those were originally Apfelpfeil or other charter coaches.
Maerklin did release a model of one of those coaches under the number 4180.

Hi Mike!
What makes you so sure it is a DB coach?
I would rather vouch for an SBB EW IV or the like , just looking at the roof line.
FYI SWATCH is a well known Swiss company making inexpensive but trendy watches..making tons of dough... they also have absorbed more upscale brands like Longines and Omega.
And yes, I agree it would definitely make a cool looking coach....in my EW IV consist BigGrin BigGrin

Here is the photo of the Swatch coach.

If you look clearly, you will see that the roof is rounded at the ends. You will also note that the doors and windows match very closely (if not entirely) with the blue/beige DB coach on the right of the photo. An EWIV has the door situated over the outer end of the bogie, with the WC situated between the door and the end of the coach. I am guessing that this is a former Bm234 or Bcm that has been modified at some point. The WC window on the right side is at least painted over if not completely sealed.

I have found some photos of the former Apfelpfeil DB coaches that were acquired by the SBB and they do not match the photo:

See also: http://www.drehscheibe-f...oren/read.php?31,5977500

I am therefore leaning more and more to a DB or ex-DB Gesellschaftwagen type coach.

Hi Mike,

In my view the car hasn't a even alignment of the windows. So I suspect the car to be an ex BRüm which were rebuild to WGm ("Geselllschaftswagen") in the 1970s. But so far I haven't found the history of the car. The number does not match to any of the APFEPFEIL-cars which came first to the SBB and later to RAIL IN CLUB. These cars also had "Schürzen" (streamlined cover between boogies) which I don't see at this car.

Markus

AFAIR Swatch was a joint venture of several of the Swiss watch companies, including Omega and Tissot.
The companies wanted to create a new brand to offset the competition from cheap watches coming from Asia.

DB Gesellschaftwagen:

These photos seem to match in many aspects the SWATCH coach.
The 4th and 5th compartment window from the left (not including the WC) seem a little closer together than expected.

Regards
