Hi all,

Yesterday I found in the cellar under my house a box with my childhood Trix Express trains.
They belongs to my father, he had it already when I was born in 1966.
In my childhood I played a lot with these trains, almost every day.
I thought it was all lost during a move, but apparently I put it in the cellar 15 years ago with some other boxes.
(The cellar is only 60cm high and normally I never go there).

Even my favorite tinplate trainset is included.
The electric locomotive that goes with the set, has a plastic cap and is only 4,5 - 6 volts DC.
The wheels of this set are for the Trix Express system, so wide wheels with high flanges.
The brand of this set is unknown, it’s not TRIX.
In 1985 I asked my father, but he also didn’t no the brand. He told me he has bought the set in the 1960s in a toy shop in Rotterdam-Holland.

Especially the tinplate Texaco tanker was much loved by me and my childhood friends.
The couplings on the set are very simple.

Yesterday evening I put the tinplate wagons behind our (Marklin) V200 on our (Marklin) layout and they runs fine.
I'm very glad I found my old childhood trains back.
I'm still missing a box with two locomotives, transformers and scenery stuff.

Does anyone here maybe know the origin or manufacturer of the trainset ??

Marco

Hi Marco,

I can see it says "Made in Western Germany" on the bottom of the loco, and there is also a lot more writing I can't read from the photo. Does this not have any more clues about the maker?

Ray
Mostly Marklin.Selection of different eras and European railways
Small C track layout, control by MS2, 100+ trains but run 4-5 at a time.

Hi Ray,

Thanks, but no clues....
I made some more pictures....

(when I was 10 or 12 or so, I did one side of the loco with red paint).

Marco, what a wonderful find after all those years. You need to go into the basement/attic more often. BigGrin

I reckon the puzzle of what brand will be solved within hours (if that), one of our experts will know. Interesting that the notes on the underside are in German & English, indicates intention for a worldwide market.

Simple design as you say but quite delightful. The couplings look very familiar but I can't place them.

Cheers

Hi Marco,

the train was made by HWN, Nuremberg (Heinrich Wimmer oHG Blechspielwarenfabrik, Nürnberg) in the 1960s. HWN- trains were placed in the lowest price segment and were mostly sold in OEM-packages for mail-order-houses and department-stores.

Hi Cookee,

In 1985 - 1990 I did much effort to find out who the maker was.
I asked many people / experts and spent many hours on it. During that period I was a active member of the Trix express club Holland.
But nobody knew this set or manufacturer. And no internet in that time.

If anyone here knows, that will be a miracle !

We do Miracle's here - often.

By my reckoning, just 4 minutes between my saying someone will know, and Marcus giving the solution, and a mere 1 hour and 1 minute between your original post and the solution.

Is that a record?

Now I know what the brand is, I can go look for more information.
I'm going to restore my Heinrich Wimmer locomotive, especially the paint.
I found on Internet the last hour only 1 photo of the same Eloc.....
