Hi all
I was given a gift of a passenger car set 43019 last year (3 cars in the set), and now would dearly love to fit some interior lighting (and people!); would 73400 be the right buy, but then which pick up shoe/ground spring set - the 73405, or 73404. The 73405 has a symmetrical shoe and earth spring, and 73404 has an asymmetrical shoe and earth spring!?!Unsure
I have some older cars, 4053 (with tail lights and shoe), 4052, 4026 baggage car, and 4054 Dining car - it seems the 7077 kit and 7198 shoe will suit these....Smile
Any help will be much appreciated before I send off the order!
thanks, Joe

I suggest you check the information that came with this set. I could be mistaken, but I don't believe these short cars are able to accept the ground pickup or pickup shoe. If the information that comes with this set doesn't mention anything about interior lighting, it probably cannot be done (easily). Generally speaking, the 73400 (yellow) and 73401 (white) LED boards will work in many situations, but you need to be sure the pickup shoe and ground pickup can be attached. And, for future reference, there are acutally 3 different pickup shoes Marklin offers for use with these LED boards: 73404, 73405 and 73406.

For the older 24cm coaches, here is a little secret and very useful tip. The Maerklin slider must be mounted by a screw which is connected to a mount on the bogie. The Hag slider Nr. 518 clips on to the pins that anchor the external details of the bogie to the metal frame and provides a much more secure and flexible contact. The wire from the 518 can easily be connected to the first 7077 or even to the 7320 kit for the 24cm TEE and other coaches. I have even mounted one of these Hag sliders to power the red taillight on my 348/1 SBB coaches from the 1950s.

Thanx rjf - there is no mention of anything about lighting kits for the coaches in this set, so i think i will leave well alone at this stage! I think the prob would be the shoe and ground pick up as you say, thanx, Joe

Hi Joe,

This type of coach was originally made by Marklin as the individual cars 4201, 4202 and 4203, and had interior lighting included, but they were not equipped with pick-ups. Instead they were intended to be used with the Glaskasten locomotive, 3387, and the whole train was fed via current conducting couplers.

I have a similar case and a very basic question: no problem to install the slider. But how do I install the ground pick up (under the trucks)? Can someone take a photo, please.

Thanks to all responses so far, I bought the 74300 lighting to put into the 73019 set and was disappointed that it didn't fit. I've also had trouble trying to work out what lighting kits have what content. So to that end:

73404

72021

I'm thinking that the ESU strip lighting (50702) will be able to be cut short enough to fit these cars. Otherwise the 'fuhrerstand' units might work.

Hope that helps with the purchasing decisions!

The Swedish 28702 was just like the 3387 set with live couplers on the loco and current conducting couplers for the coaches.

Era 3
DB lokos, coaches and freight cars from across Europe
But I do have the obligatory (six) SBB Krocs
ECoS 50200, all FX and MFX decoders replaced with ESU V4s, operated in DCC-RailCom+ with ABC brake control.
With the exception of the passenger wagens with Marklin current conducting couplers, all close couplers have been replaced with Roco 40397.

Hi Joe,
Depending upon how many other cars you may wish to add lighting to in the future you may want to check out this thread:

https://www.marklin-user...with-Wiring-Diagram.aspx

It doesn't offer a solution to the power pick up method but works well and is cheap.

Roger
