Hi people,
Last month I had an accident with my Alco PA-1 Southern Pacific, the decoder got fried so I had to replace it. I bought an ESU M4 which is the same MFX that comes with this locomotive with the sound for this locomotive.
I was able to make work all functions and lights for this loco including the Mars light thanks to the mapping function of the CS2.
The Mars lights function is controlled by aux 1 and aux 2 depending of the travel direction. My question is how can I make them to work only when the lights or F0 is on? At this moment If I turn on the mars light they will work independently of the lights function. I remember that with the original decoder the Mars light did not turn on if the main lights were off. Only with the lights on the Mars light could work.

Any help will be very appreciated.

Regards
Eduardo

Hi Eduardo,
What you could do with the locksound decoder is the following:
Let's call F0 the fonction for the headlight and Fx the fonction for the Mars light:

F0 ON + Fx OFF-> headlight ON and Mars OFF
F0 ON + Fx ON -> Headlight ON + Mars ON
F0 OFF + Fx ON -> Headlight ON + Mars ON
F0 OFF + Fx OFF -> headlight OFF and Mars OFF.

Then, on the lok, the Mars is ON only when the headlight is ON.
I understand it's not exactly what you want to do, for you want to get mars OFF as soon as F0 is OFF. I don't think that is possible without a relay in the lok.

Hope somebody has a better solution...

Fred

Hello Eduardo
With ESu decoders there is a "mapping" possiblity that allows you to assign any function key to any decoder output.
In general ESU does a good job with their user manual.
Nothing prevents you to assign two (or more) such outputs to the same function key(s).
It is a little easier to do with the Lokprogrammer, but with a little binary/decimal conversion skills Wink it can also be performed by simple CV programming.
Hope this helps

It's million light years away from the moon (dark side)LOL

Mars Lights are signal-safety lights used in the United States and built by Mars Signal Light Company for railroad locomotives and fire apparatus.

M4 decoders do not support CV programming for function mapping and other advanced features. You need a Central Station or a Lokprogrammer to do it.

Re: Mars Lights:
In 1:1 it's an oscillating light. In 1:87 it's a flashing light (intensity varies) that simulates the effect of the oscillation.
