I saw this photo on Railpictures.net today. There are some evenly spaced marks on the front of the lok near the headlights. Does anybody have any idea what they may be?

Very interesting indeed Mike. After almost 35 minute googling I am yet to find another picture of this particular loco where the white "things" are visible. The picture is taken this August (according to railpictures.net).

The only thing I managed to find out is that the loco has not had these "white things" there for more than 6 years. Look at this picture:

It is the same loco 08.04.2006.

It is in the fifth column, about halfway down on the page.

Not that it helps much, but it might be of some use..

Still waiting for my locomotive btw, hoping it will arrive tomorrow Smile

Oliver

Interesting Mike!
No idea myself, but I promise, next time I pay a visit to my friend who's Lokführer in Erstfeld, I'll ask!

I have ruled out any modifications that might have been required for the "LION" upgrade/refit as that is being done only to loks 11201-11230. It seems a little symmetrical to be the result of an impact and there doesn't appear to be any damage to buffers or footboard. It is possible that the lok might have required some repairs (rust, etc) that required being painted with an undercoat and that the lok will be repainted in red in the near future. I have not been able to find any more photos with the same features.

Riddle solved: Probably the result of a light collision during switching or the like

That could very well be it. Especially in the first picture you see that there are 4 places in similar positions that have paint wear.

Thanks. Looks like we have solved this one. I don't think it was due to a collision. Perhaps due to wear and tear, snow, debris thrown by passing trains, paint wear, etc.
