For some reason not known to me just yet but I had just started to run the lok and smoke was coming out of the casing. The lok came out of my starter set with the BR50 if it is going to cost to much to repair it I will keep it for some spares and look for a new lok.

Could you surggest a lok to go the the silver coaches that came with the set . I am not a purist so as long as it looks the part that will be alright with me

Would a BR111 been used to pill the coaches. [:(][:(][:(]

Br111 or Br141 would be good options.

Depends on your strictness: the coaches are era III, therefore an E 10 or E 41 would match, some steamers like BR 23 or maybe BR 50 would also do.

BR 111 and BR 141 are era IV - the coaches were still in use, but the number scheme had changed (computer numbers).
If you don't mind that, BR 111, BR 110, or BR 140 can also be used, BR 218 too.

Tom

Thanks for that insight, Tom. Silverfish coaches look very much the same to me, whatever the era.

Hi Charles Smile,

my best guess is "only" a grilled decoder ...
Shouldn't cost you a fortune and then the V160 is a very nice Diesel with great sounds Smile[:p][^]

A little known secret of the electronics world is that all electronics in fact run on smoke. Should the wires containing the smoke become damaged, the smoke will escape thus rendering the circuit unservicable.

Cheers....

Mike.

Hi.

I got to have a look into the V160 today. My friend came around and we took it apart cleaned it all out and put it back and no different . If we left out the magnet and the armature the gears worked fine but as soon as we put the magnet and the armature back in it ceased up again. In the end we change the magnet and the armature and it know runs like a dream. There is no visible damage to the parts we replaced.Smile

Hi, Charles,

maybe there is dust from the brushes filling the gaps between the collector fields and causing a shortcut.
Or a loose cable at the armature.

The former problem can be cured with a toothpick.
But normally locos keep running - they run slower and motor becomes hot, but normally they continue to run.
Regards
Tom

Charles, what a great story. You must have some good friends, who have armatures and magnets on hand like that.
