Due to the absence of portuguese loco models, I'm into scratchbuilding a few, using usually DC chassis, with both bogies powered and no traction tires.

This brings the problem of having to de-power one of the bogies to fit a standard slider (losing lots of traction) or building a non standard slider.

However, I don't know all the available slider models out there.

Does anyone know where to get pictures of all available slider models?

Or better yet, is there a manufacturer of non-standard sliders, suitable for fitting on very small vertical clearances?

As far as I know, Marklin, Roco and Brawa offer sliders in their catalogues. (Roco might be the supplier for all non-marklin) Check out the Roco catalog. They offer several types.

Also, have you looked at the sliders that come with coach lighting kits? You might find something you can use there.

Try Marklin, Roco, Viessmann, Piko, Brawa, Electrotren catalogues.

I dont think there is a lot of difference between the various makes. Roco advertise a silent pickup but I dont know of anyone who has tried it.

I got a Roco silent shoe on a Roco lok I bought. Was essentially silent until it ran over the first set of points and self destructed.

I replaced it with a good old Marklin one

I have several Roco locs, all with the whisper sliders. All are VERY quiet and run beautifully on my C-track layout.

Interesting on the Roco shoes. One good and one not. What type of track were you using Ron.Peter do you think they are better than Marklin.

My layout is all K-track. The switch the pickup slider self destructed on was a double slip.

For DC loks with low clearance, Fleischmann sliders are a good option, they are especially thin.

They're certainly much quieter and smoother. Haven't noticed any electrical pickup problems or other issues, certainly not self-destruction. Beyond that. My trains run which is what I expect.
