Hi all,

I'm new to the forum, greetings to all.

Something about having grandchildren getting just old enough to be interested in trains, and finally having some time, got me to dig out various M* trains have been in and out of our lives.

The family lived overseas when the kids were young, which resulted in a starter set and enough extras to play with (and directions in everything but English), then flea markets in Central Europe offered up a few more items.... I did add a new starter set a few years ago as the most feasible way to get a 110 transformer, but didn't get much further than that.

Anyway, as I dig everything out and do necessary lubrication, I come to one of those flea market finds, a Primex 3017 S-Bahn. Probably I'm a slow learner, but cannot figure out how to access any lubrication points except for the obvious wheels. I've tried unscrewing everything that turns, but that doesn't allow the engine to come out. Can anybody explain what I'm missing or how to do it??

Thanks in advance for helping me thru a few of these head-scratchers so that I can get everything running see where it leads.

Hi Bill, welcome to the Forum.

You may want to contact Dr. Tom Catherall of Marklin, Inc. USA. He wrote an article on the digital conversion of the Primex 3017 and would most likely have the information you are looking for. His contact information can be found here:

http://www.marklin.com/

Tab down to "Contact Us" then send an E-mail.

Hope this helps.

On these older models, there is usually a screw or 2 on the roof that holds the body and chassis together. Unfortunately I don't have this model so I don't really know, just guessing...

I've looked around a bit for an "exploded diagram", but haven't found any...

I would certainly like to see a detailed modern model of this old S-bahn train in the future... wink

Thanks all for the welcome. TTRExpress, I've contacted Tom as you suggested, good idea. It's a pretty specific issue, probably answerable only by someone who owns a Primex 3017. Appreciate it!

The Marklin version of the Primex 3017 is the 3128. I read somewhere that this model uses the same chassis as the 3028 Br515 battery railcar. If this is so, you can see on the exploded diagram that there are 2 screws from underneath holding the body to the chassis.

You might have to copy and paste this URL into the address field.

Hope this helps,

Ray, you returned me to something I had tried, but this time with a bit of a tug to get the pieces to separate. Duh. Solved!

Thanks to all for your kind and helpful answers to this newcomer. Along the way I learned a lot about Primex, and got to try several suggestions.

Thank you!
