Hello,
I have a 4367 SBB Eurocity 6 car set. This train derails on R1 curves on a slope. I noticed that the same 2 cars derail every time. I am wondering why this happens. I suspect that the coupling mechanism between these 2 cars do not move left to right smoothly and causes the train to derail.

If this is the problem, how can I fix this?

Thanks.

Hi Gautham,
I'm not sure but that set might have adjustable buffers. Try and see if you can push them in. If one or more are too far ou they could snag.

I would agree with Roger's assessment of the buffers as being the likely source of the problem.

I do have a few questions that may assist your diagnostics:

If the same two coaches derail each time, what happens when you a) reverse the coaches 180 degrees, b) change the order in the train?

If the issue is the buffers, are all the buffers on your train pushed in or only some?

It is also possible that the metal piece that sits above the coupling shaft inside the problem coach is loose and is blocking the shaft from properly swinging to either side.

As the set contains two of the panorama coaches and two second class coaches, it should not be difficult to change the running order without affecting the consist as a whole.

Apm - Apm (Pano) - Apm (Pano) - WRm - Bpm - Bpm

In my set, I replaced one of the panorama coaches with a 4266 (Eurofima) coach, resulting in:

Am - Apm (Pano) - Apm - WRm - Bpm - Bpm

You can also add one 42162 or 42163 at the end as a Kurswagen.

The other panorama coach runs with my OBB EC Coaches as the "Transalpin".
