Hi guys! I just recieved my Marklin Ice 2 train set, along with the Ludmilla, 29010 starter, Rhiengold train set and a fairly large (and ambitious ) C track layout with extion sets. I also got myself the CS2 and i have a few questions:

1) I have recieved a double slip switch with one of the C track extension sets. I have also ordered a number of turnout mechanism's and digital decoder. I know its possible to fit the left, right and 3 way turnouts with these items. IS it also possible to attach turnout mechanisms to the double slip switch or will i have to order the 24624 turnout seperately?

2) Is it possible to attach the catenary and control track both to the CS2? If i power the catenary through a seperate transformer will i still be able to control the locomotives through the cs2?

3) I also have platform and street lights. Can i take power directly from the tracks for these lights or do i have to attach them to a seperate transformer?

4) I have a number of uncoupler tracks. Is there any way i can attach them directly to the track or do i need a k83 decoder for it?

Thanks!

Hi Gaurav, welcome to the forum!
As for 1), I don't know but somebody else will.
2) You can use catenary but it is not functionally necessary in digital operation. If you put another transformer or controller to the catenary, you will not be able to control those loco's with your CS. And there's a risk of the 2 controllers getting in touch with eachother and so getting damaged. So I e.g. use the catenary only for show.
3) Taking power from the tracks for lighting can be done but will cost you power. I advise using a separate transformer.
About 4) I'm not sure with CS-2 but I think you will need a separate decoder, just like for a switch.

Gaurav,
As for 1, You can use a standard turnout mechanism on the double slip switch. You need only one turnout mechanism for it.

Hi Gaurau.

The hand driven double slip switch from starter sets has number 24620.
I had one and I fitted both mechanism and decoder and thereby "changed" it to a 24624 - so no need to buy an extra 24624.
Happy setting up.

Doesn't the double slip switch already come with a turnout mechanism in it? Here's the description from the catalog:

24624 Double Slip Switch.
188.3 mm /7-13/32" / 24.3°. Comes
with electric mechanism and lighted
double slip switch lantern. Can
be retrofitted with 74460 digital
decoder.

As for (4), you will need a K83.

Then you will obviously need to fit a mechanism.

I did so with mine (fitted a turnout mechanism to the 24620 double slip from the extension set). One solenoid mechanism is enough. In one position it selects the "curved" routes, and in the other the "straight" routes.

My only observation is that the mechanism has to drag a lot more "bits" across, so sometimes the actuation is a bit slow, but it generally works OK every time.

Thanks for the update guys. I don't have any C track double slip switches (plenty of M track ones!) so I wasn't aware that there are 2 types.
