Another dumb question for our resident Swiss experts.

On the Märklin 3338 AE 6.6 the model comes with green cab windows. Can anyone provide some info as to why, and when were the windows this colour in the prototype?

Cheers….

Mike

The first models of the new production, which started in 1991 all had green tinted cab windows. It was not until the 29850 in 2004 that Maerklin finally manufactured clear windows for this model.
I don't know if the parts are still available, but I did order some replacements around that time for my 3636, 3737 and a few other loks.

The part numbers were:

391 060 Window parts (Green lok 29850) given as 106 373 (for 37362)
106 372 Window Parts (Red Lok 37362)
The reason for the different parts is that the stanchion between windows is painted on the parts and must correspond to the lot (red or green)

To replace the cab windows, the light channels and cab interior must be removed.

Thanks Mike, that is really good to know about the difference between the red and green loks.

Do you know if the SBB ran them with a green tint at the time?

Cheers….

Hi Mike

I very recently bought one of these off TradeMe as well.
Here's a post that might be of interest regarding accessing the front windows - risk of breaking the lichtkoerpfer.

Thanks guys,

I’m not trying to take the windows out at all, I’m just curious if there was a time that the SBB ran the locos with the green tinted windows?

Cheers….

Thanks Stefan 👍

Now the other posts about removing them make more sense to me.

Thanks everyone for sharing good info on this subject. Now I will have to look at getting clear windows to install into my lock.

Cheers….

Mike
