I wanted to upgrade the motor and decoder in my Marklin BR 151 from startset 29645. It comes with an AC three pole motor so I wanted to install a new high efficiency five pole motor instead.
I tried both Marklin set 90643 and 60944, but neither engineblock could fit in the mount.
Does anyone know which motor fits in the locomotive? I've reached out to Marklin but haven't heard back yet. They have very long response times.

Your locomotive appears to have a DCM motor, so the upgrade set 60941 should fit, or alternatively the 60760 set that comes with a no-frills decoder. The 60943 and 60944 are intended for the small and large FCM motors, respectively.

You are right. According to 3rail.nl, all Marklin analog BR 151s have an DCM motor.

Hi Masters!
I have a question!
I would like to convert Marklin 13305 and 194-158-2 crocodile locomotives from analogue to digital sound!
I would like to ask respectfully what kind of motor and sound decoder would be needed?
Thank you in advance for your answer!

Best regards:Attila

Atilla, welcome to the forum. Marklin item 13305 shows as a Z scale lok. If yours is ho, could it be #3156, or 3356?

That's ok, to err is human. I am no conversion expert, but others are. You will need at least a 5 pole 6090 propulsion set, and a decoder with a wiring harness. The 22 pin version is for models with a pcb board already in place. More if you want led lights and sound. Two different field magnet and motor block shapes were made. One is a better fit than the other. New old stock may be available but they are not produced anymore. A used one may be an option. Some minor frame grinding may be necessary for proper fit so the armature gear doesn't bind. I have seen pictures of it done. The standard msds sound decoder for an electric locomotive is modern. Custom sound files can be loaded with a decoder tool, or a dealer can do it for you.
I hope I helped, and the best of luck with it. As I said, others should have more advice.

There are essentially two possibilities for a decoder.

First is an ESU Loksound 5. You should be able to get your dealer to load the appropriate sound file. The german crocodile will use a different sound file to the Swiss crocodile. If you go with this option you will also want to get the 21 pin MTC mounting plate for the decoder.

Second option would be a Marklin msd/3 decoder. These come with a 21 pin MTC mounting plate as part of the kit. I am not aware of any dealer offering a sound file loading service for these, but again using the approiate sound files from the Marklin selection can be done using the Marklin 60971 programmer.

In both cases you will need to identify the correct sound files for your locomotives from the decoder manufacturers selection. You cannot use ESU sound files in Marklin decoders and vice versa. The files are encrypted.

Hi
The motor for these locos usually is LFCM. May be your not, but I don't believe so.
A photo of the inside will help.
In this case the appropriate motor is 60944

Please post a photo of the locos with the body removed so we can see the original motor, then it is obvious for people to say which motor kits you need.
