You need ethernet and wifi.
Connect your CS3 and use DHCP auto and let´s see if a red dot appears in the CS3 that tells to start upgrade your CS3.
H0
DCC = Digital Command Control

You need to connect your CS3 to your network via a wired connection. It cannot connect to your network wirelessly.

As others have noted, the easiest way is to set it up beside your router, using an Ethernet cable directly to the router. On the setup screen make sure the network is set to default, and then ask it to update over the network.

If you have not updated for some time you may be able to update using a USB stick, but that will not get you right to the latest, as there are often small updates that do not get issued as USB updates. Connecting to the router is guaranteed to get you to the very latest version.

It does not need to be right next to the router as mine is one floor and a couple of rooms away. It will only need to be no closer than your longest ethernet cable. And you can connect wireless but you need to have a second modem to connect to your router. Hard wired is much easier. Once you connect it properly and go into "System" a red dot will appear next to the component that has upgrades and you click on it and just follow the prompts. You need to watch it as you will frequently be asked for upgrade or install permissions. Oh, before you do any of this you should backup your CS3 to a thumb drive and once successful do the same with the date of each backup. And be able to identify which is which.
