Apologies if this is a silly or basic question, but is there any difference between the Marklin 74491 and 74492 turnout motors?

Thanks

Alex

Yes, the cable that comes with them. 74492 is for StartUp with special control boxes.

Thanks Tom

Would it be right to say that as I am discarding that cable and using the cable that comes with the decoder unit, I can use either point motor?

Yes Alex, if the cable is detachable and the decoder cable plugs in properly as I recall, then it should work fine.
Try it and see if you can do it without cutting anything first. There is no reason why the motor itself should act any different if wired correctly to the decoder. I believe I may have had some that were permanently attached by a spot of gluegun, but I am under the impression that I acquired those second hand, so not sure.

In single point perspective, where do track lines meet?

I think so. For digital use, get the cheapest of the two.
