This trend seemed to start in conjunction with Märklin's 150th birthday.
So far we have had
30159 SBB Ce 6/8 Crocodile - 1996 Insider Model
2009 Museum Car
2009 Magazine Club wagon kit 'Ford'.
28950 Le Capitole Set
30210 V200
00796 Tin Plate Coach set
37574 E03 Triple Set
37629 Union Pacific F7
30050 Br23
26490 Blue Bird Alco PA1 set.
We also had the 31859 / 31860 set of 3 Crocodiles, but they did not come in a blue box.
Are these items something you find appealing, and want to buy? Or do you see them as just another sales gimmick?
If you like them, which other items would you want to see Märklin produce. A 30470 Br44 perhaps, or maybe a 30150 Crocodile?
30390 - E 10.12 plus 40850 - 5 Rheingold coaches set "Tin Plate" came in the blue box too.
These blue boxes are only a marketing instrument. I do not care about the packing, because the pieces inside get unpacked and the rest into the basement. The price of the product is much more important as the wrapping.
Which one I like to see? The new restored Big Boy from the USA in H0! The box does not matter, whatever Maerklin will pack it up. Hopefully it comes for a reasonable price.
P.S.: Both, the E 10.12 and Tin-Plate coaches, came for a very reasonable price.
And the Blue E03 (can't remember the catalogue number).
Should we also include the orange box Primex items?

Perhaps for 50%, as you can read at Maerklins website. The box was "a colored representation of the locomotive borrowing from the historic packaging of the Sixties."

Yeah, that is the one.
But even though it is a fictitious loco that matches some of the locos from the blue box era, e.g. the green Swedish Da loco in the 31100 set which, until the Swedish Railways had their 100 years anniversary, had never been painted green, even though Marklin had modelled it in green as well as brown.
