The Q1 upgrade has arrived - and it isn't June yet.

They announced there would be a new prompt when mfx+ locos register for the first time. Too many locos were sent to Göppingen because they had run out of virtual coal, sand, or water. Version 4.2 is meant to reduce that.

Tom

decoder updates now have some of the bugs fixed

- no warning about bootloader
- mDT/3 updates WORK without assistance
- workaround/resolution to the "12345" item number display after v3.0.1.0 of a mSD/3

It basically says "Press OK for Semi-Pro Mode or press Cancel for Standard Mode".
Semi-Pro Mode was the old default setting that causes the trouble: loco slows down when resources are out.

Press Cancel to play without refilling coal, water, and sand.

A little question please ?

For this update of the cs2, is a key usb in the cs2 necessary ?

Thank you for your reply

No, this has been available by the internet, direct to the CS2.

A file download , to a PC and then onto a USB , MAY be made available from the Marklin website in time.
If so it will be found at ... http://www.maerklin.de/d...nloads/software-updates/

i don't understand...on the Marklin website...no update is informed

I read the comment of Tom and Peter 2-3 times and it would concern the games(sets) " mfx sanding fuel oil .etc " that I do not have.

Thus useless update for me

I wait

Umm ... I am not so sure...

I have a feeling that the recent issues around the m*D/3 (mDT/3 in Apr and firmware issues from last week)) have forced their hand.

Sure, the Kran mFX+ stuff was overdue - but are we not expecting some tweaks for Steam (American Mikado) and Diesel (EMD F7) that are suficiently different ?

And while the mFX+ registration prompt was expected , it had been gazzetted for v4.2
(OK the new GUI is 4.2 but the package is 4.1.2 and that is what I would have thought would be referenced in any communication)
ref: http://www.maerklin.de/e...digital/mfx-locomotives/

The L88 stuff had been an issue since day one, and was probably just sitting ready to go

Howevrer
- no movement on the mFX signal management front
- no really movement on the 32 function support front.
- expected CS/3 awareness needed (maybe under the covers)

It seems that there may have originally been a concerted aim to align with a CS/3 interoperability release, but as the CS/3 has already been bumped (and likely to do so again) it may just be prudent do to a mini/half-release to stem the calls to the servicedesk

I read on a dealer site that only the CS3 would support 32 functions. This may or may not be true.

I still hope they will add support for 32 functions to the CS2 - but maybe they reserve this feature for the CS3 to make it more attractive.

Or just remember to change it back to normal operation when you first register it, which is what I do. My first mfx+ lok entered that mode in a track section running from a 6017 booster and it was a long slow crawl to an area where it could be changed or the fuel replenished. That lesson was quickly learned. BigGrin

I am hoping for that too but I bet that they will withhold if from the CS2 to try to move us all into a CS3.

It is an error in their website CMS (Content Management System). A quick "Google" on the message tells me that it seems to be an error caused by a certain extension. The Märklin website uses the Typo3 CMS and this is the extension causing the problem: https://typo3.org/extensions/repository/view/dce

I bet they will have it fixed soon. Smile

One new? function that appears to have come in with this release is that the CS2 now completes it startup by leaving the track power SWITCHED OFF.

This , I think , is a very good idea.
As the CS2 poweron/startup process can take quite a long time, it is not uncommon to be working with the layout, placing new locos and wagons on the track etc.
Also, if some layout work has been done and needs testing, you want to be close to the CS2 - which historically literally means standing there waiting, or unplugging the cable.

An , initially, frustration aspect is that THERE IS NO INDICATION that this has happened.
i.e. the STOP button is not lit to give an indication that the track power is off

I agree that unpowered might be a good initial state for the system on boot up. But the CS2 should show its proper status at all times, especially at startup. I say that part is clearly a bug in the latest release and needs to be addressed.

No, I do not believe so. You update to version 4.x using the update function on the CS2. The Märklin website has nothing to do with that.

At least not yet - the latest update on the website is version 3.7. This can be transferred to the CS2 using USB memory, suitable for CS2s without Internet connection.

CS2s connected to the Internet can download version 4.1.2 automatically.

This doesn't happen for me!

Maybe it's a bug, and is configuration-dependent. I have seven 60174 boosters connected to my CS2, and everything is powered on when boot-up completes. This takes several minutes, though, as I have around 200 locos defined in the CS2, and you can see them being addressed one-by-one as the start-up process continues. Only when all the "live" locos have their lights on has the start-up completed.

I believe you are correct.

The , hoped for, feature now appears to be nothing more than a by product of the CS2 waiting for all its configured devices to respond.

In my case an un-powered L88 will cause this wait to be indefinite, until either
- the L88 is connected and powered up
- the STOP button is toggled OFF and ON.

My situation was exacerbated by the fact that I had previously been playing with some other L88s (different serial number/mfx IDs) that are now not even connected to the CS2. But as there device awareness was still there the CS2 bootup hangs .

The new version is far more attentive to the restoration of the L88 configuration (previously it didn't care and lost the details of the actual configuration, even though it still kept a register of the device itself)

Just for completeness of reference on this topic ...

ref: Marklin website
http://www.maerklin.de/f...er_CS2-Version_4.1.2.pdf

Googly =
...........................................................................................................................................................................
Update for CS 2 - Version 4.1.2
The following changes will be active after installing the update:

1. A control panel for the new Goliath crane 49954 is integrated into the MFX + ® gaming world. Of the 3 motors for the various movements of the crane may have only one enabled. This has been reflected in the user interface. As resource consumption of this model has the consumption of diesel fuel.

2. Immediately is requested during the registration of mfx ® locomotives + whether the consumption should be enabled to resources (game mode Semi-Professional). If the green tick operated this mode is active, when selecting the red "X" of the standard mode, however, is chosen. So then no consumption of operating materials is enabled.

3. The loading of Lok icons via the web interface is possible again now.

4. When the system is rebooted now are the states of the feedback modules 60881 -
60883 registered first, so that an automatic operation can be started directly.

5. The mfx-registration process has been optimized. Disturbing brief mfx indications in the display are thus eliminated.

6. Also multiple installation of new data in the current retrofit decoders are now
no problem.

I'm still holding my breath about this one! I must admit, it *does* seem to be fixed . . .

I've been complaining to Märklin about this since the CS2 first came out (is it really eight years ago?), and they finally seem to have cracked it. I'd always assumed that it was an issue with the GFP/TFP, but that hasn't changed (and the CS3 uses the same version 3.27 of the GFP).

Anyway, well done Märklin!
