Has anyone tried the new magnet ESU 51965 with the locomotive Marklin 3015 and Loksound V.4?
I have recently done this, and the running with the new magnet ESU is quiet and good. The gears run smoothly.
However, the decoder gets very hot, while the consumption data that are in the CS2- 60214 Marklin are between 300mA and 500mA at low speed and medium speed.
I do not have confidence with this data, and I did check the actual consumption of the motor by disconnecting the decoder and making it work with a dc transformer in series with an ammeter.
The values obtained are between 1.2A and 1.8A.
So my questions are:
Which of the intensity values are correct?
There is a sound decoder that can withstand the high consumption of that engine?

If you are concerned about excessive current draw causing the decoder to run hot, you could try the Loksound XL v4, which are designed for Gauge 1 locos but may also suit the 3015 crocodile.

Yes, I suspect the XL decoder will be needed with this motor. Marklin always specified that the 30VA transformer was required for locos using this motor, and could run only one loco at a time IIRC.

So I wouldn't be surprised if a standard decoder ran somewhat warm.

Thank you for your suggestions, but the dimensions of LokSoundXL are excessive (51X41X14mm) for 3015 Marklin locomotive.

OK, I would suggest you contact ESU to see what they say. They may have an alternative way of getting a higher output current.

If you cannot contact ESU Germany, then it is probably worth contacting ESU USA, either directly, or through the ESU Loksound Yahoo Group. Matt Herman from ESU USA is active on that group and I am sure will help with your problem.

I am not sure if the 54399 LokSound L V4.0 "Universal sound for reprogramming, with Adapter board" for Gauge 0 will fit your needs, and It is 2x1 inch. I don't know if it is already available. Below is a portion of what is written in the catalog:

"..the Decoders will also come with an interface board for hardwiring into whatever Brand Locomotive you have.
With a constant current of 3Amps continuous the decoder’s load control will power all
current O scale locomotives whether having 1 or 2 motors with ease. The decoder’s hardware includes 9(!) function outputs,
ability run 2 servos, and inputs for 3 hall sensors (commonly used for syncing Steam Chuffs). You can also add 2 speakers as
there are 2 separate speaker outputs (one Channel). Additionally there is the ability to add an external volume control and external
power pack."

Edited for add more information.

Thank you so much for this information mbarreto.
The decoder mentioned by you, are already available, but unfortunately their dimensions 2X1 inches ( 50,8X25.4mm) do not fit into the available space in the Marklin locomotive 3015, which are 43X 24mm (1.7X 0,95inches).
I hope some answers from Esu to my questions, which I think are the needs of anyone who wants to install the new magnet 51965 and Loksound in that locomotive.

What do you think about the decoders of Doehler&Haass? The SD21A with sound have a total power of 2A and dimensions 30,2X15,8X5,2.
Some of you now this decoders?
