I am just returning to my Marklin trains after a 30 year hiatus.
Am now cleaning and oiling locomotives before converting them to the 5-pole motor.
They are all, of course, analog.... at least for the moment.
Wondered why one of the locos lurches a good 18 inches before changing direction...
an unfortunately destructive tendency.

This question has no doubt been asked before, but I get no results when I search for the thread.
This is my first post, and I am a total newbie to the forum, so I might be doing something wrong.
Anyway, many thanks for any insights and solutions that anyone might be able to share, and apologies if I am
bringing up a well-hashed topic.

Hello, welcome back to the hobby.
Do you mean that when you change direction, the locomotive goes ahead at full speed?
If so, you may want to adjust the spring tension in the reverse unit, to do so you have to gently bend with a screwdriver the tab where the spring is hooked.
Best regards

Hi Makistrain,

And welcome to the forum.

The problem could be the spring of the reversing unit is too tight or the main supply voltage is lower than the normal standard.

In other words: if your transformer is rated 120 VAC and the main supply voltage is 110 VAC (or lower: this is only an example), the reversing unit (relay inside the loco) is not able to change travel direction and the locomotive runs at high speed until the relay is able to reverse the direction.

As it is too late now and I have to go to sleep, if you give more detailed information, I can answer more precisely tomorrow.

Cheers

Renato
