Details about Märklin 3068, NSB Di3b 3.641

Updated 22.06.2012

This model was made by Märklin from 1964 to 1976.  Two different editions were made.

The NSB Di3b, the prototype for Märklin 3068:
Axel order A1A' A1A, or 0-6-6-0'.  A1A' A1A means that the locomotive had two bogies with three axels each.  The front and rear axel of each bogie had it's own electric motor, therefore not mechanically connected.  In other words, the centre axel of each bogie had no traction motor.  NSB Di3b 641 to 643 was initially meant for the Finish railway company VR, but due to political reasons VR bought some other locomotives.

The Märklin model:
Both versions:
The chassis is made of a metal plate, to which all components are installed.  The rear bogie is driven by a large flat collector AC motor (LFCM for short).  The pick-up shoe is installed under the front bogie.  Normal windows are installed in the metal body, so are several ladders and handrails.  Length 20,5 cm.

Edition 1:
Produced in 1964 and 1965.
The NSB logo on the front is on a thin plastic "film".

Edition 2:
Made from 1966 to 1976.
The NSB logo was printed.  The photo shows this edition.  This edition was available a "assembly kit" from 1977 to 1979 under the item number 3968.
