The BR 52 came as a new model in the Märklin program in 1994. Two
versions were introduced, the black DB 3715 and the grey 3793 ("one
time series"). The Delta versions were called 3415/3393. A HAMO DC
grey version, 8393, was also available.
The BR 52 was originally designed as a
war loco with a simplified design compared the BR 50. The concept proved
itself to be reliable, and many BR 52 ran all over Europe after WW2. In
total there were over 6000 units built of class 52, some after the war
too...

The loco
itself is good, but the tender is a bit too light and may derail
since the pickup-shoe is mounted there. The articulated frame makes
this model go fine on a small radius layout too. |

A nice

I had thought of buying a BR 50, since I love these big steamers with a
lot of wheels, when this model came around. Since it was grey it was a bit
unusual, so I just had to get it instead. It runs very smoothly after the
run-in period and oiling. The c90 drive really makes this loco go nicely
also at low speeds. The light tender is a bit annoying, but some added
lead weights remedy the derailing tendencies. This is not a unique behavior
for this loco but seems to be rather common to locos with the
current pickup attached to the plastic tender.
