Heard of TELEX? This is the symbol for it. It has been in Märklin program
from 1959. Nowadays it has been replaced by the 30321. I think it was one
of the first locos with light leading plastics, with only two bulbs for
the 6 lamps; the plastics from 1959 on our model has to be replaced in
1998, as it more or less fell apart.
Those old models had some non prototype printing on the shell, like "Märklin", "3031", and
the Märklin logo of that time.

Very good
but not unique. |
It has served me well for all those years, incl the childhood. There is no
practical limit for the number of cars pulled, and it's fun to play with.
The sidings must me straight for shunting, because the Coupler are
always pointing in the direction of the body. And the old telex coupling
has been (partially) replaced to allow for the new close coupling in cars.
The old machine also has the direction change switch beside the smoke
stack.
A fun thing with my loco was that it was
faster backwards than forwards. The loco has now been converted with a c80
decoder, without problems.
The cylinders are a little bit large too.
I have sometimes problems with shorts occurring when getting in contact
with for example the K decoupling track.
