About this site

This site is maintained by a few model train enthusiasts that enjoy playing with  model trains. It is a site for model train lovers by model train lovers, and you are very welcome to contribute to the contents.

The emphasis is on playing (eehh... hrrmm, we are supposed to call it operating as adults..) with the trains with a kind of critical eye on performance, looks, and general usability of models... In short - playability and possibilities... Hopefully we can give some tips on what to do or not....  The accuracy of the models is not the crucial thing here, but the fun of the hobby is..

We have model reviews, digital info and a variety of other stuff you might be interested in...

The site is maintained on an "if-time-allows" basis, so the interval of updates is not scheduled...

We also have some graphic artwork, in case you are interested in decorating your walls with something nice related to trains. The graphics are available through this site and an online order form is present on the site.

I would appreciate contributions to the content of this site. I am especially looking for photos of models, model reviews, information on models and the prototypes for these, and also personal stories about model trains and their 87:1 counterparts...

If you would like to contribute with something, you are very welcome to mail the webmaster at marklin-users.net at telia.com

We are quite happy to have a variety of visitors from all over the world, and this keeps us motivated to continue our effort to provide information that is usable.

One common factor is that many of us are fathers now, and have picked up the hobby again after growing up, making careers etc. and found the fun in model trains again when our own kids got their first set...... Let's just say that we fit the current Mrklin marketing strategy, the father-son relation.. Son plays with his things, and father buys expensive digital stuff and makes his own childhood dreams come true with the son as an excuse..

I myself got my first train set at Christmas -63 and played with it until around -70. Then there were other interests that became more important like music, sports, girls etc... Then work, family etc came in the way.... When I got my son in -90, I was happy to bring the legacy of model railroad fun to him a few years later. Then I also found that some evolution had been going on while I was away from those little trains..  When my son had got his first train set, I browsed the catalogs and found that you could run these little mechanical wonders by computer nowadays. As a computer engineer, this of course appealed to me as an excuse to start playing with trains again...  So a new era of genuine interest in model trains also struck me...  When I retrieved my old trains to give to my son, I was amazed that they just ran again when they were put on the tracks again after 25 years in storage...  Another great thing is that these old childhood pieces can be converted into running in the digital system with a little effort....  Talk about long-lasting playing value......
