Dear Guys

Can anyone/all provide the applicability of the above.

Is this product still available and what are its limitations?

Is the 6022 a pre-cursor to the 6021?

Cheers from Brisbane

The 6022 was/is a limited "all-in-one" controller, capable of handling 4 loco addresses (10,20,30,40) through the keyboard. And it is also capable of handling a few turnout addresses.

If you use a 605x computer interface and give commands to it with a computer, it can address all addresses in the Märklin digital range. The trouble is that it can only address devices with the "old" Märklin format, which means that the newer extra F1-F4 functions as sound and such cannot be correctly addressed since these newer features use the "new" Märklin format which was introduced as a configurable option with the 6021 controller. As I see it, the 6022 controller should be avoided since it is a very old control unit supplied mainly with digital starter sets pre-1994... The product was cancelled almost 10 years ago and is an obsolete product...

There was also a 6023, directed towards the US market, which was a 6022 with an added serial interface for computer operation.

One could say the 6022 was the precursor to both the 6021 and the Delta controller, since back then the "real" digital system would need a 6020 "Central Unit" (a "black box") + a separate controller with throttle & functions (6035 or a 6036 with 4 additional function buttons)... The 6021 was the first integrated controller with full capability since it in principle was a combination of a 6020 Central Unit and a 6036 Control 80f + added functionality with the "new" Märklin format through the DIP-switches... I got myself a 6021 in 1995, and I am in fact quite amazed that it is still the main offering from Märklin regarding top-notch digital control within the system... Needless to say, I'm one of those who nowadays use the IntelliBox from Uhlenbrock as my main controller since it outperforms the 6021 in every practical aspect...

However, the 6022 is an obsolete piece of hardware even if there might be some use for it if you have small layout and are not too picky about the newer flashy F1-F4 functions... That is - if you get it *very* cheap...

I know forum member Lars W has one, and he can surely tell you more about it...

Hope this helps you a little...Smile

I have, I can, but need not I think. You expressed it well Juhan.
It can directly control 4 turnouts on adresses 253-256, but with keyboards and c80f any adresses. But never the new format as Juhan told. As I regard also the 6021 as obsolete I wouldn't suggest paying for a 6022... But with my age also nostalgica has a place...

Ah, Nostalgia!
I started Digital with a 6023. I wonderfull place to start.

I also now have an Intellibox.

Sort of learning to drive in a Trabant. Nice to remember, but not very useful today. :)
