Hello to all,

My latest acquisition an RSM800, have headlights (two bulbs) only at one side, it says "Marklin - RSM800" on one side and "Germany - RSM800" on the other, and strangest of all it says "20 Volt" at one end which have fake headlights (between the "fake" headlights).

This is the first time i see a "20 Volt" mark on a Marklin. Do you have any idea about the year of production. Unfortunately i have no pictures at hand at the time of this writing.

All the best,

Cem.

RSM800, made 1950 to 1955. Is this your engine?

Very interesting I searched many RSM 800's and haven't yet found the "20V". I have an RS800 and it says "20V" on it.
A picture would be great.

Some pictures if any help:

At the opposite side it says:

"Germany"
"RSM800"

Pick-up shoe appears to be a modern one, but it might have been changed at some point. If any help; the (+) wire from the motor is soldered on the pick-up shoe - i don't know if this was the normal practise in those days.

I will send more pictures after cleaning the engine.

Oh, by the way, i forgot to tell: there's no traction tires on the model (reads - not that they're off, but no place for them on the wheels).

Well I luckly have one these great models also. I am pretty sure they all had the 20volt on the side with the painted lights. As for traction tires and the old type of slider I am not postive if all four versions came extaly the same. I have two TM800's and one is had traction tires and the older doesn't. Also different sliders. The RM800, RSM800, and TM800 are identical inside when the body is removed. The RSM800 only had different drive rods though.
You can check some pics at this website.(http://www.bigio.net/Electrische/RSM-800/RSM-800.htm)

Karl hi,

Thanks for valuable info.

I'm trying to find out as much info as possible about pre 1960 Marklin products for more accurate year guessing.

About the pickup shoes: i have a 1955 F800 (unused) and there is a modern (today's) pickup shoe on it. I also have a 1954 DA800 (little used) with an older pickup shoe: the ones that are used just before the "modern" ones.

On many occasions I have observed this pickup shoe difference between 1954 and 1955 models so I concluded that Marklin changed pickup shoe design at that time. The change from the "four position reverse swicth" to "two position reverse switch" happenes to be exactly at the same time (1954 to 1955). I don't know if you have noticed a similar thing.

About the "20 volt"; this is the first model I have with this writing (haven't seen it before too). Do you know if other models have had the same writing - if so, do you know the years?

Any other remark/observation/info on older models are much appreciated.

Best regards,

Cem.
