A French Maerklin HO layout inspired by the Vosges mountains and Alsatian plains, constructed in the 1990s and measuring 380 x 280 cm. Initially carried out with the legendary 1950s Maerklin-Modellgleis, lateron replaced by modern Maerklin track. Rolling stock from Maerklin, VB, SMCF, RMA, Hornby and TAB.

Hi Ak,

Thanks for posting that lovely layout.

I can identify with the modeller, because I have the same size layout, but have not achieved the different levels.
The modeller has achieved a masterly representation.

I can identify:
1. A double track circuit at lower level.
2. A single track circuit with overhead electric catenary at upper level.
3. The two levels 'appear' to be unconnected.
4. In the top right of the layout plan, a spur track disappears into a tunnel (perhaps layovers).

Anway, I guess I should study the website.

In picture 5, the black Pacific loco is undoubtedly an Antal Bascou, a diecast model done in 3 rail (DC) and in 2 rail I believe.
I would like to purchase one of those, they do show up on eBay from time to time.
Although REE have recently released something quite similar.

And Ak, if you don't mind, I will post a link on the SNCF topic.

regards
Kimball

Thanks Kimball,

I am glad you like it. Of course I have nothing against "linking" this to another topic.

I also do not fully grasp the track plan, but I am already grateful that there is one at all. There is another mysterious track connection on the lower left hand side. From reading through the entire website of the French gentleman I understand that this is meant to be a "reserve" for a possible future layout extension.

Yes, I agree with that assumption.

It took me some hours to finish looking over his website, and no doubt I will return again.
And it seems he is quite a collector of many models, including a lot of early Marklin stuff, which now fetches high prices.
Thankfully, I am not too interested in Marklin prior to about 1995. Only because of my desire to keep money in my wallet.

Kimball

Nice Ak !

Funny, I have followed this website for a couple years now, if only to gather information on VB, SMCF, RMA, Hornby & TAB equipment ...
That, and love of the use of 3900 track !

For all of you Fante Se nuts, he has also modelled Fleischmann (oh no, a great collection !) US trains :

USA: http://trainsdefrancois.free.fr/fleisch_p1.php
USA: http://trainsdefrancois.free.fr/fleisch_comp.php

With some great lines here (page 2, comp) :

"Le choix d’une montagne et d’un décor totalement amovible (bâtiments et végétation inclus) me permet d’accrocher verticalement mon réseau grâce à un solide système d’accrochage dans mon garage. Ainsi hors période d’utilisation la paix est retrouvée dans le ménage. La montagne cache les pupitres de commande et les relais."

The choice of an entirely removable mountain scene (buildings and scenery included) allows me, thanks to a solid hooking system, to hang the layout on the garage wall. This way, when the layout is not in use, peace is found again in the household. The mountain hides the control panels and the relays.

"Démontage et rangement facile. La montagne et le décor sont juste posés. Une fois les bâtiments soigneusement emballés dans les cartons, il n’’y a plus qu’à l’accrocher à un mur en le protégeant de la poussière, dans le garage par exemple, en compagnie de votre voiture préférée."

Dismantling and easy storage. The mountain and scenery are just laid down. Once the buildings are carefully packed in boxes, all that's left to do is to hang it on the wall with a dust protection, in the garage, next to your favorite car.

Y ;)

My apologies for any lousy translations, but this I like, and plz just enjoy NH ... my baby, + :

Hi Yum,
Some of these VB models (I managed to get the freight fourgon) are really well done.

And recently I acquired the body for a bogie SMCF baggage fourgon.
So I cut it down, and used it on a Fleischmann metal chassis.

Yes, "we" noted that already with great joy. Please see the the US Fleischmann thread in the kitbashing section of the forum, post # 8 ff.:
