Hi,
I am converting my old 3047 loc. motor with a 60944 new one and it requires to change the light bulb to a 610080. ( I have already a decoder)
Since they are so hard to find, I was wondering what is the difference between the 610080 and the 610040.. (the 610040 is much more available)
If anyone knows, let me know.
thanks a lot
Abe

Hi Abe,

The difference is the voltage rating of the bulb. The 610040 is rated at around 16V for analogue use, whereas the 610080 is rated at around 22 V for digital use. Using the 610040 in digital will give you very bright lights and they may blow prematurely.

If you like you can also leave the original bulbs, if you don't mind them flickering a bit. I don't usually bother to change the bulbs when I carry out a conversion. Just make sure you connect it as per the instructions, and don't connect the ground wire or you'll blow the decoder.

With the 610080 bulb and associated socket you can operate the headlamp independent of a smoke unit if you plan to add smoke, like I did recently. I made aux 1 the smoke and aux 2 the telex coupler. I can drop a lamp and socket in the mail if you need it. I despise lamp flicker.

But I do have the obligatory (six) SBB Krocs
ECoS 50200, all FX and MFX decoders replaced with ESU V4s, operated in DCC-RailCom+ with ABC brake control.
With the exception of the passenger wagens with Marklin current conducting couplers, all close couplers have been replaced with Roco 40397.

Hi Matt,
Thanks for your answer. I have searched hi and low and nobody has the 610080 in stock. I don't have a socket either.
If you can send me one of each, I will send you immediately a check back for it.

Thanks so much

I'll drop them in the mail tomorrow. I've copied your address to my clipboard, so you can remove it from your post. I have a bunch of them, do not worry about payment.

Six lamps and three sockets are headed your way in a padded envelope.
