Last weekend I posted a thread where we used our Marklin Club clubrooms for running our 1 Gauge modular layout (https://www.marklin-users.net/fo...e-1-running-session.aspx).

This weekend we visited some fellow club members who live about an hours drive away to visit, and in some cases revisit, their layouts. At the end of the day we shared a BBQ together.

First up was a visit to a museum in Featherston NZ, where they have the last surviving Fell steam locomotive in the world. You can read more about Fell locomotives and the line they ran on in these Wikipedia articles: - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fell_mountain_railway_system and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rimutaka_Incline.

An article regarding the locomotive is here: - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NZR_H_class

I have previously posted pictures of this layout (https://www.marklin-users.net/fo...t---Updated-Piccies.aspx). As mentioned in that thread, the layout owner has now relocated the layout to its new home, and has reassembled it. The layout is now 1 metre longer and 1 metre wider than it was before.

Next door to this layout is a G Scale LGB Garden layout, which I have previously posted about at https://www.marklin-users.net/fo...t-mistake.aspx#post80358
and http://marklincave.dyndns-serve...om/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=47 Some changes have been made since the last visit.

After lunch, we watched a sheep shearing demonstration (what else would you do in rural NZ - no sheep jokes please!), then after a quick train ride around a local park, we visited the next layout.

This layout is owned by a fellow club member. It's a very good use of the compact amount of space available, and has something of all the things I like on a layout. The points are K track points, and the track is Peco track with
the Peco 3rd rail copper strip fitted to the track. It works very well, there were no derailments at all while we were there.

The layout owner's son also has this K track based analog layout.

We had a very enjoyable day, with great weather, great layouts and great company.

I have a few videos which I will post later on.

Great day !

Marklin trains, friends meeting, some out-doors.
Lots of Class 01 Black Steam locos trains on display - always a favourite.

Good to see some pics of the Fell museum. I must go there one day.

It is interesting to see how similar the backhead is to the Ww's I have worked on, and the differences in how the Fell museum has restored the loco. Out of curiosity, when the wheels were turning, did the cylinders hiss much?

Hopefully in a couple of decades the group based at Maymorn will have the prime exhibit of the museum(or a replica of it) strutting it's stuff back on the 3 miles it was working on it's whole lifeThumpUp

Cheers,
Rick
