Hi all,

this already has been discussed here, and now the biggest Russian layout - "Grand-Model Russia" (located in Saint-Petersburg) is completely functional and opened for visitors!

The Grand-Model, certainly inspired by Wunderland Hamburg, built in 4 years by 100 employess. Claimed as non-governmental national show-museum.

Short clips about building:

Most of the Russia's main regions, cities, sights modelled. German, Swiss and Russian trains running. Audio-guides in English and German available for the visitors.

Detailed professionally filmed overview with comments in Russian (27'33):

Shorter amateur video focused mostly on trains (8'29):

Best regards, Andrey Smile

Miguel, Ian and Stephen, thanks for your comments.

Miguel, since this layout was designed and built by Russians, I think that 3 rail system has not been considered seriously.
In addition, project creators obviously managed to use Russian design locos and trains.
Classic Soviet/Russian diesels M 62 and TE 109 "Ludmila" in Russian liveries (you can see plenty of them on the layout) are available mostly in DC versions (Roco and Brawa), threrefore I think that 2 rail system has been chosen without any doubts.

Great stuff Andrey!
Thanks for posting... OT
and... Might be heresy to say here....
but maybe 2 rail is the future of Model railroading since we now have digital controls.

Thanks again!

Thanks for the video, John.

There can be found some scenes and parts of the layout, not depicted on the videos I gave links for in my first post. I especially liked bike fest, gliders field and winter part of the layout (starting from 26'00).

And noted for myself again that Ae 6/6 and V 36 running in Russia somewhere between Kaliningrad and St. Petersburg look odd in my opinion!
Bit strange that owners with their solid budget didn't manage to find more Soviet/Russian locos and wagons, which are actually produced here in little quantity by the small manufacturers.

OK, if not to dwell on the above-mentioned, layout details are great.
