Close views of a Big Boy,very impressive.
I must have it,i must have it,i must have it!
I used to have the first Maerklin Insider model, and sold it!
Perhaps i could do with the Revell (former Monogram) 1/87 modelkit for the time being, but i MUST have another Maerklin Big Boy sometime.

And it's of Big Boy 4006, which is the locomotive my 37993 Marklin Big Boy is modeled on.

The Revell (former Monogram) kit is also the 4006.
I have the Monogram kit, looks pretty detailed to me,with a lot of small detailed parts.
The kit is a snap-on kit,no glue required, but i would not opt for that,i would fix all parts with a drop of glue, like you use for model airplanes.
Drive wheels are very fine, need attention when trying to align on Maerklin track.
Handrails easily snap,i have snapped rails on the smokebox and backside of tender, think my hands are too big.
Painting requires attention too,kit comes in glossy black plastic all the way, first job would be to paint everything in matt non-glossy black or dark grey.
How to paint the wheelrims in a proper way is a big question to me,that is going to be blood, sweat and tears.

For all of you who cannot afford to buy the Maerklin Big Boy (like me),the kit comes at some Euro 20.-,brandnew in box, various are on sale on Ebay.de.

Paul.

Thanks Kevin,

I do know there are versions which show Denver&Rio Grande on the box.

Cheers,
Paul.

Sorry,i was mistaken.
There is a Monogram version which says on the box that decals for DM&IR are included.
The Monogram versions i think date back to the mid eighties.

My Monogram Big Boy kit has Baltimore and Ohio decals and also marked as such on the box !!!
I wonder how many "wrong road" version there were ?
I also have two Revell versions and they are not "snap together" but glued. They are both Union Pacific.
Hope this helps , Colin.
