I bought a small selection of Electrotren catenary to test for compatibility with my old-style Marklin catenary. (For use in tunnels)Smile

What I found:
'Wire' is 100% the same as old marklin wire. If you drop them in a pile, you cannot tell which are which. The only difference is the lengths offered; not as many lengths as were in the full Marklin line.

Masts: the top part of the mast where the wires connect is close to the same as Marklin masts. Wire connects the same way as with Marklin masts.
The mast base is different: you have a block that screws down, then the mast slids on. This is the same technique that Viessmann uses for tower masts.

If you are looking for parts to finish out a setup with the old Marklin catenary, electrotren catenary looks like a good option.biggrin

Well, not really, or at least my Electrotren wire differ a bit; they are more silvery and has sharper edges.

But nevertheless they are a good substitute.

I believe Electrotren have been broufgt by Hornby. It will be interesting to see if 3 rail survives. You are right about the catenary masts, really compatible with old marklin ones
