It is supposed to be gold. IIRC they were the Nurnberg Messe loco when C track was introduced, and I seem to recall that the decision on a dealer supposedly being able to purchase one or the other or both was dependent on how much C track they ordered.

When I saw ''cookee_nz'' name in the thread, I must admit I really got a bit surprised....you see it is not a familiar name for my humble thread...but when I read the whole, I realized that it was only a warning...RollEyes

If my memory does not mislead, the last post I got from ''cookee_nz'' was another critical message complaining that I was not telling the shops I had been visiting....RollEyes

Hi Mehmet, if I may be honest (and speak freely), there is a good reason you probably don't get any response from me, I simply cannot be bothered wading through HUNDREDS of photos of the same items taken from every conceivable or possible angle. Please understand also that I am commenting here as an individual member of the forum, NOT in my role as a moderator which I might add, I rarely have to exercise.

Personally, I do most of my forum catch-up reading at night, in bed on my tablet. I'm sure I'm not the only one (I no longer have the luxury of a job that allows me to browse the forum and get paid for it) Crying

It's a modern tablet and absolutely perfect for this sort of thing, except for reading your threads. Not because they are not interesting or that I dislike the content, not at all. It's simply the overwhelming number of images that you post. It takes an extraordinarily long amount of time to download and cache all those images, and I have better things to do with my time than waiting several minutes for a page to completely refresh, only to find 5, 10, 15 slightly different images of the same thing.

And then, someone else responds, and repeats them, all again. Gulp.

In a perfect world (I'm still searching for it)... if there was a way to add a couple of main images, and then a link to a private server where many more images could be viewed (of each rivet if you wish) that would enable those who are interested in such minute detail to view them without the thread becoming bloated with them but even that has it's own set of problems.

This has been commented on before, in both a casual manner and also as a 'please don't do this' moderator response. It's a limitation of the forum software that even allows this to begin with. Ideally each repeated image would instead give a small thumbnail or a link back to the original comment with those images.

You may feel this is a trivial thing, but consider also for a moment someone who may be reading the thread via a mobile phone on a data plan. That's a CONSIDERABLE amount of time and data bringing all that information down. I suspect I am not the only member here who does not normally read your posts because of image overload. I mean you no offence but sometimes, "Less is more", if you know what I mean.

I have enjoyed other posts where you have clearly been a good ambassador for our favourite hobby, particularly the young people you have encouraged to operate your layout and who knows what seed it may plant in them. You've been to Mecca Göppingen, as have I, so there's something in common ThumpUp . You've done a tour with some other members, that would be my dream.

I get that you are proud of your layout and collection, and so you should be, I am, like many others, just a little envious of what you have and there is no criticism of that.

But just to clarify...

1: I don't actually recall the first 'warning' you refer to regarding the shops?, I cannot find it and you gave no link so I have no context to respond.

2: The second 'warning' (with rolled eyes?) was not at YOU, it was at those who were re-quoting you and not removing the repeated image links. I appreciate that some members may not understand how to do this, or simply cannot be bothered, hence my suggestion to not use the 'reply with quote' button so readily.

So don't take it so personally, but please also leave the rolling eyes out, I find them a bit of a demeaning put-down which I'm sure you did not intend to convey. BigGrin

We've had enough discord here in the past without adding more.

And I repeat, this is my personal view, and not necessarily shared by the other moderators.

With kind regards

Steve (cookee_nz)

Hi Steve,

I checked all my very limited threads(more than 400 pages) and could not find the post I told you about your first post...I am afraid it must have been

someone else not you...

Sorry about that...Blushing While doing all this check I have noticed another fact

This page does not have many pictures....Huh

...this one has but all different pictures...Cool

Believe me Steve, I am very bad at computers but I have spent a whole morning for this and with ''Ctrl + F'' I have searched the name

''cookee_nz'' but nothing has come out...Crying Crying

This means I have done nothing to attract your interest...Crying Crying But this does not mean I have lost...Wink

Let me tell you one thing my dear friend, this June I will be at my sixty...there are lots of things warning me that I have not much time left such as my

health, a highly expected earthquake in Istanbul , a war in Middle-East etc....Crying Crying

I know none of these does not concern you at all...Laugh

But let me tell you something that might/ may/ should/ must-you choose: I was in Märklin factory a month ago....believe or not the place was like

ghost-town...half of the chairs were empty ....I have seen only 40-45 people working....the place was like beehive four years ago....no lorries in the

parking lot....not a smiling person inside....yes, this hobby is dying out....Crying Crying Crying

Well my friend for a while I will not send anything new to this thread...and surely you will prompt to my post...so people will see the whole bit for a

while...Smile

By the way here people still cannot get the new catalog but last week I managed another guest of mine to start this hobby...I wish I could do more...RollEyes

Wish you and your beloveds a Merry X-Mas, I know this has been a bit too early, but you see we do not communicate very often...Smile

Hello Mehmet,

I enjoy your posts and I feel you make a significant contribution to this forum.

Your layout and interest in continuing the hobby with the younger generation is a credit to you.

Same here, I'm on a 300 Mbit/s connection and a fast laptop, but I too must wait several minutes till Mehmet's imageshack photos has loaded, only to find more then 10 different images of the same loco or 20 selfies from Mehmet face.
Seriously, I think I saw the last 2 or 3 months more than 100 'Mehmet selfies'
Of course I understand that at times you want a shot of your face and a tiny slice of what's going on behind you, but why so much almost identical selfies and ussies ? (ussie = an 'I have more than one friend' selfie).

Hi Mehmet

I just wanted to thank you for this thread and your posts. You have a wonderful layout and great collection of Marklin locos and rolling stock, and I enjoy your comments.

You wrote, "Let me tell you one thing my dear friend, this June I will be at my sixty...there are lots of things warning me that I have not much time left such as my health, a highly expected earthquake in Istanbul , a war in Middle-East etc". I would not be too concerned about your health, but your comments about possible earthquakes and war in the Middle East are interesting as I have,at times, had the same odd thought about you and your Marklin collection when reading your posts. Unfortunately, there is little if anything we can do about such things if they do occur.

You also wrote,"Well my friend for a while I will not send anything new to this thread...". This would be most regretable. as I (and I am sure many other members of the forum) enjoy your posts and your photos. Please understand, as cookee nz is at pains to point out, that his comments are directed at forum members who unthinkingly use the "reply with quote" button, but do not delete the photos and other unnecessary comments not relevant to their post.

So Mehmet, please keep posting, and keep other members of the forum entertained with your photos and comments.

Geoff

Could not have put it better myself.

No one is asking for the flow of information to stop, not at all.

Just to be aware of the impact of higher volumes of photos on some users.

Just because any individual member may not read certain threads does not mean other members are not enjoying them. I have no doubt there are many topics that I've either started or participated in that others might be bored to death by. Blushing

Maybe not everyone is aware that the text that is in between the Quote tags (i.e. ['quote=xxxx;1234567'] ['/quote']) can be edited and deleted to narrow the quote being replied to down to the specific point that is being responded to, just as I have edited GLI's quote to narrow it down to the specific point I'm responding to in this post.

Threads can get quite cluttered if everyone uses the Reply with Quote button where there is multiple quotes nested inside quotes. Throw some duplicated photos into the mix, and it really becomes a mess.

So, I would suggest when replying to a quote

- Edit the quote to only include the specific point(s) being responded to

- Don't include photos in the reply quote, unless you are specifically responding to something in the photo and don't include multiple photos.

- Don't include multiple nested post quotes in your quoted reply.

For new posts

- Best to include all photos in one post as much as possible rather than multiple photos in multiple posts (Juhan says this provides better forum performance).

- Use users.net to store photos rather than an image sharing site, as this will make page loading much faster. Links also will not be broken in your post if the image sharing site delete your photos or go offline.

- Resize / compress all photos to below 500kb, and preferably to 250kb for best performance.

- Don't have too many photos of the one item / scene / group of people - 3 or 4 at the most should be fine. And by Marco special request keep selfies to a minimum.

Otherwise, keep the stories and pictures coming.

Mehmet has a wonderful collection and I try to keep up with his posts as much as I can, however it is a challenge because of the bandwidth needed to view that number of photos. A long time ago I did ask him if he would consider posting less photos of each item, but ultimately it's his decision what he shares with us.

Those who have a problem with this volume of photos should refrain from following threads like this one unless they are at a computer with a high data rate connection. I'm typing this at work where the connection is pathetic and I have serious problems with the photo downloads. As I'm typing the photos further up the page are still loading and my screen is jumping about trying to keep up! Aaargh!

Hi all,

A page is a page is a page is a page..... and so on.

If Mehmet posted only 2 photos of each piece of rolling stock, each page on his topic would still be saturated with the same number of images..........
There is no getting away from the fact that any single page on the forum, can contain "n" number of photos, regardless if they were loaded in 2 weeks or 2 years!!!!!

The same problem lies in ALL the topics with lots of photos, and NOT with Mehmet.
The problem lies with the technology - the internet, the software used by Juhan, the computer you use to access the forum - a combination of all these things.
Just expect less please.

Let's just end this little off-topic discussion... This is utkan's image presentation topic, and technical/performance issues should be discussed in the "Forum problems" section instead.

The main issue is that how fast image sharing sites deliver the pics and how fast your connection is.
The forum software waits until the page load is complete before it directs you to the last unread post, so it's just doing what it should do.
Topics with "attached pics only" load significantly faster than topics that contain references to external sites.
Those external references are downloaded to your computer directly from external sites and has nothing to do with the marklin-users site performance at all, really.

Can we get back on topic and see some more pics instead?
Christmas is coming soon, and we should all work our spirit towards that instead... Smile
