Not in the 70's, they have made some French sets more recently but so far as I remember none of them were full starter sets, only the trains were part of the set. There might have been one now that I think of it with an electric engine and freight wagons but I need to go through some catalogues. I am talking in the last 7 years or so.

Yes it was a BB 12000 around 2005/2006
There were another one, round about the year 2004 with 3 passenger coaches + BB 15000 : I prefer this one because the Marklin BB 15000 is just a beast for every owners of train layout who like to play & to roll.... & to play & to roll... & to play & to roll again & again....Wink ....and a well designed replica (my own taste), specially the accurate design of the front windows & the whole front side (according many specialists of this Lok...)
The BB 12000 is an accurate replica for sure & quite well detailed, it was designed by the Trix team...

Yes Stephen, this one is with the BB 12000, originaly designed by the Trix team for the Marklin Trix programm of the year 2002, and fitted with a can motor...According most of French MRR enthusiasts , it is the most accurate model ever made by industrial manufacturers of the wellknown BB 12000 ,. She is quite well detailled....and all metal !
While ref 29529 is with a BB 15000....

There was AFAIR a start set with a French steam (repainted DB model 3000 or 3029) at some point in the 1960s/70s. I remember seeing it in Paris in 1972. I don't remember which dealer it was. I do remember that I left the shop with some catenary stock for my little start set oval and my brother got the middle coach for his RAm. It turned out that the coach was a 4070 (3 pin) and did not work with his 3071 (2 pin). I do not know if all sets made for the Importer would be listed in Koll, but there should be records somewhere.

Hi Mike,

A special set sold in France and other European countries (except Germany) in the early 1970s was the Set 0974. It came with a simplified 3029 which was not in the normal assortment any more in these years. But no special colours.

http://cgi.ebay.fr/251054243036 shows the set.

Regards

Markus

Hi,

In 1988, Märklin Primex produced an "Orient Express" train set (#2701, with a French ex Nord/ SNCF 230, or 4-6-0 engine, and three passenger cars). The Marklin Primex set Orient Express 2701, Cars based on the 4037 standard issue sheet-metal, were finely painted and lettered, with gilt touches on the cello windows. The engine was all metal, and the set is now well sought after.
It commands a respectable price, and many are still brand new in the box.

In fact I believe there may have been a similar small tank engine freight set about the same time.

regards
Kimball
HO Scale - Märklin (ep II-III and VI, C Track, digital) - 2 rail HO (Queensland Australia, UK, USA) - 3 rail OO (English Hornby Dublo) - old clockwork O gauge - Live Steam 90mm (3.1/2 inch) gauge.

I had that set. It came with a 3029 plus one flat car and a hopper car with a red bucket. The second car in the set is not the one that originally came with the set. It also came with a small transformer 220V and an oval of 3120 industrial radius track.

The one that I was thinking of was very similar, but the lok had the cab painted green (if I remember) and it had SNCF markings.
