Dear all,
I would like to know which passenger coaches and freight cars suit the diesel BR V 140 (Art. No.: 37211)
From M* website: Built in 1935 for the German State Railroad Company (DRG). Use: Medium passenger and freight trains on main and branch lines.
So, what wagon sets are recommended for both, passenger use and freight use.
Thanks a lot in advance,
Akis

Hi Akis,

Although built for the DRG, the 37211 model is an era III loco.

I would imagine it would have been used on slower passenger trains, so perhaps a selection of cars from the 00792 display set might be appropriate.

On freights, any era III freight cars would look good. A rake of 'Dresden' covered freight cars from the 00794 display would be nice, for example.

Both my suggestions are from the 2010 new items, but there are many more cars and car sets from previous years which would be appropriate as well.

Small C track layout, control by MS2, 100+ trains but run 4-5 at a time.

That's what it was designed for in the '30s, but it never really went into service for DRG.
According to Wikipedia.de DB used it for passenger trains. It was retired in 1953.
So I think that green coaches without DB cookie, some with 3rd class, would be the best choice.

I don't know if DB also used it with freight trains. So "in dubio pro reo" and "king in your own country" will allow you to run freight trains with it.

37211 , era 3....I intend to use it as a shunter , for maneuvre.....just because in many railways Cies , at the very end of their life many machines were used as shunters inside station area or for very short distances, ...When powerful enough, some of them are dedicated to "heavy consists" maneuvreing, shiftings or tranfers ..About the V 140 I don't know if it was historically true .... I just find it "plausible"...due to its specifications...

Also : because Era 3 in Europe , they were lacking in machines & every things, they had a very poor choice & couldn't do what they want....they just took what was available...At this time we could see a lot of mixed or " ill-assorted" consists
Also : because it is a short lenghted model...more practical for my small/average layout...( about 4m X 1.50m ...But two levels & half will make it a surface of 15 m²....when finished ! )
Also because I need early ERA 3 shunters and this one has nice & original look...

I've tried to find historic photos of the V140 001 in regular service, but I could not find even one historic photo where the loco actually pulls a train. So I'm also wondering which coaches would be best behind it. Donnerbüchsen are an obvious choice I guess, but it would be nice to have some actual footage on hand.

It's a great model, I'll probably acquire it.

Update: I went through all my books and magazines and found exactly 1 photo of the V140 001 with a train. It was published in a 1999 edition of Bahn Extra and shows the V140 001 with a passenger train the station of Bayerischzell. The rolling stock are standard 2-axle Dönnerbuchsen cars (i.e. Märklin model number 4313, 4314, 43315). The photo caption says it was taken around 1950 but I doubt that, I think it was taken much earlier because after WWII this loco was relocated to Frankfurt Griesheim and it seems doubtful that it would reach Bayerischzell from there.

I could not find any photos from the Frankfurt area but I think it must have pulled regional trains there that included Einheitsnebenbahnwagen ABie-34 (Märklin 4335 and 43351) as well as Donnerbüchsen. The DB built primitive cabs into some of these, as can be seen in the April 2010 issue of Eisenbahn Journal:

It is likely that the V140 001 also drove with Wendezüge like these in the Frankfurt area. Sadly, Märklin does not produce a suitable cabin-equipped coach like this one yet. As the V140 001 was retired in 1953, I don't think it ever drove with Silberlinge.

I'd love to see more historic pics from the V140 001. If anyone has some, or knows a source, then please let me know.
