Does anyone know where I can get a new tip for the M soldering iron it does not appear to be available from M and is different to those sold at my local stores. I understand that the same iron is made by another firm but do not know which one.

It is definately made by another firm. If you're interested in having exactly that station. Consider the Viessmann one, since it is completely the same. (And it is, or a least was, available) |

As Sander says, it's made by Viessmann, or at least it is a rebadged Viessmann station. Hopefully you can source through them. Good Luck!!
As Steven's link does not work, due to expired cookies, try searching through the Conrad selection of replacement tips - under Tools & Workshop. (P.S. I didn't know that Conrad are an M dealer - there you go you learn something new every day).

Thanks guys. What a great forum this is. Went to the Conrad site and there was the M station (under the name of Voltcraft) along with replacement tips ...Well done Steven.

Okay I don't need new tips for my 70910, but I would like to be able to find them when I do.. Can you please let us know the article number for the tips? I tried everything, but I could not find a voltcraft +Lötstation or voltcraft +Lötkolben that looks anything like the 70910 unit.. There were over 500 voltcraft items and my poor grasp of German (nor my keyboard) does not incorporate the technical terms on those sorts of websites.. |

The Märklin Soldering Station appears to be a commonly re-badged "OEM" unit!
I count the following brands:
Märklin
Viessmann
Conrad
Jaycar (here in Oz, about two years ago - no longer, though [:(])
Voltcraft
-- there are almost certainly others.
Clues are the model name "LS50" or similar.
It is obviously a product of some enterprising Chinese factory, marketing a moderately high-end stand-alone solder station to a variety of hobby/enthusiast companies, at a good price.
I am very pleased with my Märklin unit -- it has digital temperature control, plus time-out and multi-set points for about the same money as the extremely basic Weller unit I bought many years ago (temperature setting by tip selection only, no other features).
It heats up very quickly, and has enough power for soldering to the tabs on the field magnets.
Plus, the Märklin branding makes me feel like I'm doing "fun" stuff, not work...

The 'Gabba store didn't recognize the part number, or remember the item [:(][:(]
In a catalog from about 2 or 3 years ago, there is a soldering station that is clearly the same item as the Märklin/Viessmann/Voltcraft unit, complete with spare tips.
I have been meaning to email the Jaycar website to see if they have any old stock of the tips, but work keeps intervening...
I'll try to do it this week...
Failing that, I am thinking a bulk buy from lokshop of the Viessmann items might be prudent, say 5 of each tip...they're €3.53 each (AUD5.87).
I don't think they'll disappear, but I have a small suspicion that it was all a "one-off batch deal" |
