hi to all,

I just bought a nice Marklin/HAMO Br18 DC to convert to digital. This is my first experience with DC loks. could somebody tell me what is the pin (with a spring mechanism) at the bottom of the chasis is used for?

thanks.

by the way, Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year to all!

Do you mean the switch for power from catenary or track? It is usually there on all E-locos.

No, the cat switch got no spring. This is DC territory, anyway - the pin's purpose was closing contact when passing a contact track. Thus activating an railroad crossing, signal, or light, F.E.
Found only on older HAMO locos, they did away with that pin, later ...

I think we are talking about the spring-mounted pin found under all Fleischmann locos. -Even the new ones!
It can be seen on several pics (of locos), if you go to the Fleischmann website.

Completely right! All Hamo locos have such a "punaise", like all Fleischmanns.
