Hi folks,

Last week I finally found an opportunity to add some streamlined UP coaches from Walthers to my minute passenger fleet.

As these are 28-something centimeters in length I thought it might be useful to post an impression of how these coaches look on "our" c-track radii R3-R5 [I did not include R9 as that is OK anyway].

As expected, they derail on curves consisting of R1+24188 etc. (track visible below)

Very interesting, thanks for posting.

What I wonder is also about the free space between the bottom of the coaches and the track level. Do you think this might be critical on transitions between different grades, or when passing the pukos on turnouts ?

They will derail on normal switches?

@Hans Martin: I did not have a problem with the high pukos of the long turn-outs. Can't say anything about grade transitions as I have none (attic floor "layout"); however, when I set them on the track using the corresponding Mä-tool the decoupler pins did touch the pukos if I tilted it too far. However, I think it should be possible to make the transition smooth enough to avoid that.

@Davy: I can't answer your question, as the only normal switches I have are in the tight-radius part of the layout that is off-limits to these coaches anyway, and I do not have R2 curves. Walthers specifies 24'' or wider curves.

I will post a full report about those Walthers passengers cars soon. I confirm that they cannot take R1 and R2 curves without imortant modification of the underframe.

Thanks for the pictures, Jeroen.

Pierre.
