Does anyone know if Marklin is planning a new controller? It was not many years between the CS1
and the CS2. CS3 has been around a while now. My CS3 works fine right now but it is getting years
on it. If it fails I could get by with my old CS2 or even the 6021 for some of my loks But....

Those who know are not allowed to talk about it.

The CS1 was an ESU ECoS with red buttons, the CS2 was developed by Märklin with a new partner and probably more profittable.
As long as the hardware does the job and is still available, why come up with a CS4?
The ECoS is still around, just with a new display - so the hardware is quite fast and capable if you take the time to optimize the software.

The real CS2 is somewhat slow, but the PC version reacts very fast. Just dreaming of optimized software for the CS2 that makes it much faster...

Tom

With any electronic devices, age can affect performance if capacitors, resistors or transistors lose their efficiency and get out of spec. Heat causes damage too. As far as anything new on the horizon, factors that may determine that are economics, market research and the competition.

One would have to ask what "new features" you would expect in a new model. About the only ones I can think of are larger 'disk' size and faster processor. Now the cs3 already has a quad core ARM controller, and there is nothing that could go in place of that and provide faster processing without going to a PC style processor, that I am aware of.

Yes it could do with a larger 'disk', but you can add a 32GB SD card in a slot to provide about four times the 'disk' capacity on top of the on board storage.

Maybe it could do with more RAM, but I'm not sure just how much it has, and it seems to get along just fine with what it has.

Anything else is essentially software features, which, disk capacity allowing, can be added to the existing cs3.

And also remember that with the current AI revolution swallowing up any sort of memory chips the price of a cs3 is only going to go up considerably in the coming year, and any new model will only suffer that same problem even more.

kiwiAlan you seem to have knowledge of the CS3's architecture. Would it be possible for Marklin to expand the RAM and ROM sizes for people with the 32GB SD cards through a limited software update? I haven't been able to figure out what exactly the card adds to a CS3 but then my CS3 will not accept a card.
