I saw this review on Youtube:

I have a few of the Class 186 type, but they are the BLS Re 486, which was produced as part of the hobby series.
As far as the newer models, I have a number of Re 482 and 185 models (37446), a few with Trix 185 shells.

I do not have the DB 186.

In the review, the creator talks about how the Maerklin model does not have a driver figure in the cab.
This brings me to my first question. How important is a detail like a driver for you?
For me, it is not essential, as my locomotives do not always run with a particular cab leading and one of the cool things about European trains to me was how the locomotives could just pick up a train and head off in the other direction, compared to North American locos (F7/F9/PH40/etc) which most often had to change directions to lead a train.
So, I imagine that there is a driver in whichever cab is leading and it works for me.

I like the sounds in the new 186. I don't know if the decoder in the older 37446 can be upgraded with the new one.

Regards

Mike C

Somewhat important.
I bought a Märklin 103 that came with two drivers - one at each end. The drivers looked very US-American to me, but still better than empty cabs. I moved one driver to another, driverless Märklin 103.
I appreciate that early class 185 locos came with a driver in the goodies bag. I usually installed them. The locos have a hole in the interior details where the "Preiserling" is just plugged in.
I glued some "Preiserlings" from Noch and other companies into some of my locos.
I do not have servo-driven driverlings in any of my locos - that feature is not important to me.

Regards
Tom

I bought Preiser DB Loco drivers. I guess some are rather generic now, and the same for various countries.
