Yesterday I did check at the Youtube and found a video somebody did bought Märklins first electric locomotive equipment with a power cap.
He did start tested locomotive BR186 VS with a same Roco model also with a power cap.
The test result showed Märklins power cap are much better.
Märklin model are 38800.

Hi Goofy.
Thank you Goofy, that is interesting.
In the specifications for 38800, it says:
"* Buffer memory included to bridge over short locations without current."
They have lately included the feature in a number of new releases.
I assume in the words "power cap", you mean "power capacitor" or something like that.

There has been wide speculation amongst modellers as to why Märklin were so tardy (slow) in including this power cap feature in their locomotive models.
Maybe Goofy has discovered the answer.
Perhaps there is more to a power cap than meets the eye.
I know nothing about electronics, but I am sure Märklin do.

Is it possible that Märklin can now offer a "power cap module" to retrofit into older Märklin models?
They have certainly been very successful in their marketing of motor and decoder upgrades in the past.

A typical Goofy post: No link to the video given.

The Roco model keeps running for 0.2 seconds without power, the Märklin model keeps running for 1.5 seconds.
0.2 seconds should be enough to prevent a loco from stopping on tracks with dirty spots.
1.5 seconds are rather long if you hit the STOP bar to prevent a collision.

Which one is really better? I dunno. A long evaluation on various layouts will show. I have neither of those locos.
ESU locos also keep running quite a long time after all other locos have stopped. And they are like that for a few years now.

The new included power cap is a nice feature, but it also occupies a decoder AUX out port, in this case, AUX 1.

However, the major downside is that the decoder board is now essentially a second decoder, and Marklin does not sell it as a spare part.
So if it fails, it will make repairs more difficult and/or expensive.
