Total rookie question, so please bear with me! I have a Trix 21523 starter pack which, up until a few days ago, was working perfectly but now is totally kaput. Using a digital multimeter I've tracked back from loco to mains, and it seems that the problem lies with the Marklin 66201 power supply, which is apparently offering no current to the speed controller. Can anyone suggest a replacement unit that has a UK three pin plug? I appreciate that I need a 230v input/18v output unit but I'm not clear on whether amp rating is an issue - and I'm not all that keen on simply taking a punt and frying my entire setup. All suggestions gratefully received.

Hi Andy The best replacement is a Märklin 66363 (18 VDC, 2A, UK wartplug) If you insist on not using a non Märklin PSU, (not recommended) you need a 18 VDC(Regulated), 2 Amps but watch for the proper Jack plug and polarity Cheers Jean PS: are you sure the Märklin PSU is dead? I have used MANY of them over decades and found that the usit, itself is almost indestructible but the connection to the electronis (Gleisbox in your case) may have a broken wire. Worst come to worst, cut the wire just before the jack plug and test if there is power. |

That's really useful advice - many thanks, Jean. I was also a little surprised that the power pack has given up the ghost but nevertheless it's the only bit of the layout which seems to be an obvious culprit. I'll try the 'cut the wire' option and see what that tells me - nothing ventured, nothing gained! Regards, Andy

Well, that's pretty much confirmed it - cut the lead, attached the multimeter probes and got zero output readings, so a new PSU is required. Thanks for the suggestion!

Hi Andy.
I am in the process of dismantling a friend’s layout. In amongst the transformers etc, there is a Märklin 66361.
Quote This switched mode power pack is for connecting to and supplying power to the 60112 or 60114/60113 or 60116 Track Box. The input is 230 volts / 50 Hertz / the output 18 volts / 36 watts DC voltage. The switched mode power pack is authorized for use as a toy and comes in a plastic housing. Dimensions 80 x 50 x 75 mm / 3-3/16" x 2" x 3". Connections: Hollow socket 5.5/2.5 mm, positive conductor inside. Unquote
It has the European 2 pin plug but with a travel adapter I think it could do the job for you.
I would need to sell it but I am sure it will be a very reasonable price plus postage
Kind regards Adrian
