Hi Everyone,

This is to advise that my web site provider has closed web site hosting and email accounts, which means my web site no longer exists.

I will have to think about how or if I will continue.

A sad day for me.

Regards
Ross

Hi Ross

Your site has been an inspiration to me with so much detailed information around conversions and hacks for all manner of things Marklin.
You MUST somehow preserve it.
I for one would be happy to pay a subscription or 'Patreon' style donation to keep the info alive

Thanks for your interest Steve. I need time to see if I want to continue as the work I put into the articles takes a lot of effort.

Ross,

I am sorry to hear about your Websites demise, I for one have enjoyed reading numerous articles and learning some top tips.

I would note that you are not the only person who has a useful Website with useful Articles and so I would suggest that maybe this Forum could consider having an Archive Section for Articles written by individuals whereby the advice and knowledge does not get lost.

The site can credit the member for the article.

Just a thought

Hi Ross, you do have the option of hosting your articles on marklin-users.net. Cookee moved his website sometime ago and I'm sure Juhan would welcome you with open arms.

https://www.marklin-users.net/cookee_nz/

This site also hosts Intruder's (Svein's) old website

Hi Glen,

I'm glad you found reading my articles enjoyable and you and others have found some useful tips.

Yes there are other sites with useful articles but any loss of information is a loss to the model train community.

Hi David,

I know it is possible to have hosting of my articles on the marklin-users.net thank you, but the problem is far greater than that.

All articles will have to be edited to remove Ozemail reference and all links where I supply supporting data, photos and reference material will have to be changed and updated.

All links on Google to my web site are now lost.

The links on YouTube are also lost.

My articles have been published by others without my permission. These articles are out of date as I updated my articles on a regular basis.

The internet providers in Australia under TPG of which Ozemail is one have decided to drop web hosting and email and this leaves a smaller pool of web sites that support hosting and emails.

My email is being ported to an email provider for a year then I will have to pay them a fee

If I take out a domain name I can have a web site and I will also be able to have my own email address.

If I change may email address this is another can of worms as it is a ID for many things such as banking insurance etc.

Last but not least electronic data isn't safe from a history perspective.

Hi Ross,
I am not attempting to explain how to suck eggs, but my site is hosted here in Aus at Webcentral for $10 per month.
My IT adviser says you need an Office 365 license if you wanted to receive email at your own custom domain ($9/month).
Otherwise he says you could use something like youremailaddress@outlook.com for free.

The computer software industry free offerings are for a reason - they make no commitments, and know in the long term any free enabling services can be shut down or monetised without repercussions.

regards
Kimball

Hi Kimball,

Thanks for your comments. I'm doing some research re costs and capabilities.

You are right that free offerings from providers come at a cost later on but I must say I've had the web site since 1995, now I'm facing costs to continue in time and money.
