Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has used the DB25 SCSI cable to connect control panel to layout? Can it take the currents common to MRR, more specificly Z scale currents and voltages?
I’m also considering 24 pin ATX, but it looks more cumbersome.

You can use anything well insulated. Only rule is the longer the cabling, the thicker it should be. Scale uses only 8 volts so the gauge can be about 24.

I'm using SCSI for signals & points, using 2 wires for each circuit & from memory about 4 for a common negative. But using a 36pin plug (about 46 x 21mm) for all the power to the rail circuits. I have made all the switch/wire the same so if one fails it is easy to swap, it was easier to make them all up in bulk at the desk then plug them in. Have a few spares. Same with the 2 circuit boards, easier to make the wiring at the desk. Relays plug into seats so can be swapped. (36pin plug at left of photo, 4 SCSI 50pin plugs behind wiring (3 used, 1 spare for another module)) I have done all the difficult wiring, but still need to finish things off.

They cut the cable to connect to tagstrips to distribute the connections around the module, but found they ha to be careful as no two cables had the same colour code for pin connections, so when the cut the cable they had to make sure the other half of the same cable was used as the mating connector.

Maybe I’ll try DB25 serial cable. It would be much cleaner installation than ATX.
Though I guess I could make my own cable inside a shrinktube using 24 gauge wires if I can find DB25 males with solder pads. I did find the females.

They are painful to solder SCSI plugs due to tight spacing, so I would set up on the desk, mount the plug on something temporary at the best angle so it doesn't move to solder on all the wires, long enough. Then run the wires to a user friendly terminal block. It might sound like extra work, but you will spend less time fluffing around in difficult situations. You want to keep the soldering iron on the joint as shorter time as possible not to over heat the SCSI plug. A can of freeze spray at the ready is handy (also good for killing ticks!) https://www.jaycar.com.a...ezing-spray-can/p/NA1000
