Hello! Today my CS3+ shows me that it is an upgrade.
I look into Märklin web page and all the information belongs to 2.4.0 version
Anyone knows what contain this new upgrade?
Greetings Guillermo

Thanks for posting Unfortunately, no change log included with the update or published yet. the update seems to be a minor one and probably not the "extensive" one that is expected. only the single component "cs3-gui" is updated from 2.4.0 to 2.4.1

This is not 2.4.0! It is 2.4.01, and 240.1.0!

Haven't there even been two, small, updates this year already? This, with the bigger update laste year, makes a statement like "nothing happens" embarrasingly wrong.

Greetings Guillermo There has just been some information released to dealers ... Quote:
For a correct mfx registration of the turntable 74862 at the CS3 and the CS2 we had to make a modification at the software of these central units. These software versions are available under the version numbers CS3: 2.4.1 (0) resp. CS2: 4.3.0 (11).

only minor changes The number of components updated may be few, however the "candevices" includes code for devices like the MS2, and I think MS2 4.1 is a bit more than minor. I do note that my MS2 did not initiate an update itself. As with other devices (booster, L88, etc) in the past, the MS2 update has to be initiated from the CS3. The "flow" feels better and more concise. The obvious messages on the CS3 AND the MS2 about "waiting" with the MS2 actually displaying messages that it needs to reboot (3 times?) The MS2 itself has the following observable enhancements - Tacho (Analogue vs Digital) - Digital means numerals instead of the lines of bars, the values depend on decode e.g. 0-14 vs 0-126 Within the MS2 code package is v1.62 for the TrackBox Note: After update you need to power off and on for the new version to show |

It's only speculation.

I suspect that this update will be a 'requirement' to operate with the ms2-WLAN, which is due out pretty soon (IIRC it is due 3rd quarter). That will also be why it has jumped from 3.something to 4.something.

I have it from a Danish source that the latest MS2 update is correcting an error in the firmware in mobile stations produced after May 2023 where only German language is available.

If that was the case then I would expect the version to still be 3.something as it would be a minor update. The fact that the new version is 4.something suggests there is a major update, and the obvious reason for a major update is the impending delivery of the ms2-WLAN. The fix for only having the German language available may well be the only visible effect of the update until the ms2-WLAN becomes available.

I looked at the thread in the Danish forum again. Someone found info on the maerklin homepage (in Dutch language) that the June 22.2023 software version 2.4.1 for the central station included version 4.1 for MS2 And then Soeren (the Danish Maerklin guy) replied that 4.1 fixed the language problem. And also said that the update isn't necessary if you don't have the language problem.
I don't have any specific knowledge about it myself.

Hello all, I updated my CS3 earlier this week. Now I have the huge re-re-registration and inability to change settings of ESU Loksound 5 decoders. And I have many... Therefore I want to downgrade back to Version 2.4.1 However, this version was apparently removed from Märklin's download pages. Where is this Version 2.4.1 available for download? Many Thanks Paul

If you did a backup before updating just load the backup. |

Hi, Thanks for your reply. If I remember well, backups are only for settings, icons and configuration. Firmware restore, up- or downgrade can only be done online or by USB-stick with the full .cab file. Correct me if I am wrong. Märklin offers only the latest Version 2.5.1. online Previous versions are apparently no longer available on their site.

Probably because having updated there are problems with going back.

Hi I have the V2.2 but the file is huge and not allowed by the forum: - cs3update_v2.20.btrfs, size 194 560 kBytes - 20201110-update2-2_info-01, pdf information.
They are available but I need an email to send them (would it work with such a large size?)
Note: once you have started the latest version V2.5.1(0) I think the firmware of locos has been changed and re-registration is mandatory, so, chances are, even if you install the previous s/w V2.4.1(0), you would not avoid those unpleasant reloads and re-registrations Cheers Jean |

I Believe it will turn back the clock so to speak. If not, then what have you lost by trying. Best of luck! |

My experience is that what I call a backup restores the CS3 to the condition at the time of the backup. That is why it is called "restore" in the command. So if you did a backup prior to the update it would restore your CS3 to the status before the update. If you "Restore" without specifying a file it restores the CS3 to its factory setting. But I don't know if it has all the updates.

But I don't know if it has all the updates. Hi rhfil I have to disagree with you: Backup and restore are fonctions dealing with application data (the layout, list of E/M articles, locos, events) EXCLUSIVELY and not including any Märklin firmware. When one has saved previous USB updates from Märklin website, it is possible to change backwards the firmware. Some firmware regression may have untested negative consequences and definitely on the CS3, Märklin tries to avoid it (unlike on the CS2 especially around V3.6 Regarding the latest CS3 upgrade v2.5.1(0), once it has been installed and executed the deed is done: the chain of firmware upgrade in Märklin decoders (mSD3 mSD2, mLD3, mLD2) is very difficult to reverse and for no real purpose because it is too late. Märklin doesn't say much about the reasons in locos firmware update. I suspect it has to do with the reworking of the MAPPING fonctionality. Cheers Jean |
