Hello All,
I have just joined.
I have a good variety of Marklin items. I am trying to research some engines and cars and I see written descriptions such as "Version 1" or "Version 2" etc. etc.
But I cannot see where the engines or cars are marked with this info.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thank you,
BT

The locos and wagons are not marked with any version identification. To identify versions of an item you will need to get a copy of the German catalogue, known as Kolls, which lists many (but definitely not all) of Marklin 00/H0 production, and lists the differences between variants of an item. some of the differences are extremely small and hard to spot (e.g. Marklin has reissued wagons with a different road number, but otherwise identical to one issued a couple of years previous, but with the same catalogue number) or the differences can be obvious to the eye at a glance, e.g. the colour of the cab on a crane.

Hi Gingeroll (a first name would be just great)
A warm welcome to this great forum Here a Train enthusiast since 1961 with Märklin HO, Digital, PC control. Based near Paris. I have worked on the LACTC project (Blue, Red and Green lines) for the fare collection system To answer your question some specialist bools like Kolls specify a model by its factory reference (or references) like the CCS800 which later became a 3015. Kolls lists all factory changes by its criteria but Märklin never identied or marked its model with the version number.
Version identification can be tricky and must mostly NOT rely on easily removable items such as pantographs, even paint can be misleading as some modellers repaint their models, etc.
Kolls books (Kolls Preikatalog) provides a lot of pictures to help you identify the version number. Avoid latest editions as they tend to be thinner with less information (mines are 1993) I hope this helps Jean |

Yes, welcome! What are you meaning by versions 1 or 2? Might you mean Era's?
