Hi everyone,

I recently bought 1x SNCB and 1 x SNCF locomotives (HO scale), while Marklin makes a some passenger coaches for both companies it does not many options (if at all) for restaurant or baggage wagons. I have searched high and low online for anything old or new but have come up empty handed.

What I did find was a company called LS Models, I found a bit of information with regards to changing wheels to suit the Marklin rails and changing the couplers. This is all really handy since this company makes a wide ranch of different wagons that are really highly detailed.

The only bit I struggle with is finding ways to install the interior lighting, LS Models make a bunch of gear to suit the DC system but only make a very small portion to suit AC. Their website is really not the easiest to navigate and I end up going around in circles half the time. One AC SBB restaurant wagon I am interested in (for a SBB locomotive I have) has a slider in built for each of future lighting connection but it does not seem like they sell them separately.

My other idea was to look amusing the Marklin contact couplers, but I can't find any proper documents showing how the LS Models coaches are put together.

So my question, has anyone bought any of the LS Models coach and how did you go with making it fit with the Marklin system? Has anyone bought the DC versions and attempted to convert them over to AC?

Any info would be awesome.

I have a large collection of LS Models coaches. A number of them came from the dealer with AC wheelsets. Others operate fine on C and K Track with the original DC wheels.

I have not installed lighting in any of my LSM or ACME models. Having the slider pre-installed in the recent LSM EWI Restaurant (WR) coaches is handy for two reasons, the first being that it saves me the work of installing a slider if I were to decide to install lights and the second is that it gives me a factory installed guideline on how I could possibly install a slider on other models.

As far as current conducting couplers, I think that the best option would be one of the Viessmann, Roco or other designs which provide for a single to four wire connection between coaches, especially if using a function decoder and you want to have common ground connected to a single decoder.

To use the Maerklin current conducting close couplers would require some wiring to connect the couplers to the elements inside. Other brands do not have the designed features to enable easy installation, so you will have to solder wires to the couplers and to the circuit inside the coach. For that reason, I recommend using models that are already wired.

One thing that I have noted. Some models require couplers with a slightly longer shaft length than Maerklin's. For that reason, most of my LSM, ACME and Liliput coaches are equipped with Roco's Universal Coupler which provide an additional millimetre per coupler.
