What do you use as lantern near your c and k switch?
Any alternative to the 7547 or 74470, just looking for a different look

You could possibly fashion them from a clear square of plastic, etc. then draw or thinly paint arrows on. If the tops are open, fill them up with a dab of hot glue then paint black. Maybe find round plastic stock if you'd rather rounded. A hot knife or rod could put grooves around them?

I guess building a lantern as per the previous post is doable in order to have a different look, but how are you going to actuate it to turn when the turnout switches, especially for K track?

I am looking at a more off the ground look, like the real ones. I will see if a mod is feasible with the Märklin ones. Edited by user 16 March 2022 14:36:50(UTC)

Oh certainly. If cost is not the issue here, only the appearance, then you could also drive the home made lantern with a servo and a servo decoder.

I think I will look more into the possibility of extending the neck of the already functioning Marklin lantern. Too bad they don’t make the HO gauge one as good looking (IMHO) as the I gauge one (see pic below) The mod should be simple enough since the lantern is movable from the base

Yes something I had thought about as well but if considering this there is also the issue that due to the Marklin point design (spring mechanism to allow trains running over points in reverse) that the lanterns are in the wrong place in any case.
Therefore I think you either use the Marklin K/C track turnouts and lanterns, or use something like Piko track (ie code 100 for K track compatibility) with added centre studs and then use prototypical lanterns connected down at the end of the tongue to the same servo connection for the drawbar.
Alternatively you could also stick with Marklin points but gut the spring mechanism design and connect a servo straight to the drawbar and attach the prototypical lantern there as well (such as Weinert).
Overall its a fair bit of custom work to do so not really worth considering I think unless you've done everything else to the same high standard. I'll also add that if you did want to model to a truly prototypical standard then you're better off using a two rail professional track system such as Tillig Elite and not 3 rail in any case. |
